It's been less than 12 hours and they are already calling it a frenzy? Don't look further than the media to take a small sample size and try to equate it to a larger whole. So stupid.
INDIANAPOLIS – Miami Heat player Greg Oden was getting outfitted with an ankle bracelet GPS monitor Thursday after his arrest earlier in the day on preliminary charges of assaulting his former girlfriend. Oden was arrested in Lawrence on accusations of punching the woman in the face. Oden, 26, posted a $10,000 bond before he was sent to Marion County Community Corrections to get the GPS monitor, according to online court records. http://www.zanesvilletimesrecorder..../greg-oden-charged-battery-lawrence/13748343/
Officers arrived to find his 24-year-old former girlfriend crying and lying across a bed holding her face, police said. A woman described her best friend told officers what happened. "He punched her in the face," the best friend said, according to the report. The former girlfriend initially was "uncooperative," police said. The best friend, police said, told the woman: "There isn't that much love in the world. You need to tell that he punched you in the face." Oden told police he dated the woman for about two years but broke up about two months ago, according to the report. The names of the girlfriend and her best friend were redacted in the copy of the police report given to the media. The best friend, 25, is from Oregon, the report said. One of Oden's relatives at the home was awakened by an argument involving Oden and the woman, police said. Hahahahaha! Oden is really going to hate Oregon.
I'm not Denny, but I'll answer anyway. If, without her cooperation, the DA still has enough evidence to prove he hit her, then yes, they should absolutely prosecute. Her interest in seeing him punished (or lack thereof) has no bearing on whether or not he should be, IMO.
Denny and I got into a a debate about statutory rape. He feels if the parents don't want to prosecute (say some 45 yr old dude having sex with a 12 yr old) then the state should not prosecute. I think they should prosecute in that case and in this case. Judge can always consider the victim's desires and concerns during the sentencing stage.
Because typically, OT thoughts and opinions stay on the OT board? I thought the main board was for talking about basketball and basketball players.
I cant help but think that the Oden story has a sad ending. Maybe it's best for him to leave basketball anyways. Did he finish his degree yet
LOL I remember the younger days when a young Oden assumed if the NBA didn't pan out, why, he'd become a dentist! As if just anybody can become a dentist.
Lol i think that is a little harsh. If I remember correctly the quote was if he wasn't a basketball player he would want to be a dentist. I think he knew he would never be one after starting his nba career. But seriously tho, I know he was going back to school at osu, I wonder if he finished or what degree he was going for.
True that no one chooses to be an alcoholic, if that is what Oden is. (None of us are in a position to make that determination.) But you know what I think is the saddest and most outrageous thing? If Oden could still play, some team would be signing him and talking about how he made a bad mistake. Or even a terrible mistake. Or how he had learned from his mistake. Because when you can play, assaulting a woman isn't a crime, it's a mistake. Like dropping a pass out of bounds. He's only done in the NBA because he really can't play and, with so little possible value, not worth the bad PR to a team. I don't hate Oden because frankly he's not worth it. I cheered for him, then wished him well, now I just wish he'd grow the fuck up and go the hell away.
