If Cleveland does get Vince they will have one of the best starting lineups in the League and should be even more favored than the Celtics since they already play great defence but have been missing offensive weapons. If i was Cleveland I'd get Vince if it didnt give up any of the starters except Ben Wallace.
    Mo Williams,
    Vince Carter,
    Lebron James,
    Ben Wallace,
    Z. Ilgaskas.

My best guess at the trade would be,
Cater + Sean Williams for Wally Szerbiak + JJ.Hickson + Sasha Kaun (rights held by Cleveland)

That's not entirely true, they have probably the best expiring contract of this season (Wally Szczerbiak - $13m) and have the likes of Anderson Varejao, JJ Hickson and maybe Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic (remember the Finals run - if he can recapture that form he would be a great asset to any side).

The problem with getting Vince with Szczerbiak's contract is that it eliminates the chance of getting some other player with it. Vince is a good option, but if I was Danny Ferry it would be my backup plan. What the Cavs don't need is an ailing player who is past his prime and declining. What they need is a player in a similar mould to Mo Williams, just better; a player just entering his prime with good offensive skills and the ability to create their own shot. Throw in better defence, and that's what the Cavs need - not Vince.

Don't worry; the Nets are not going to trade Vince Carter. He is a great, great player and a terrific teammate. I think the Nets are a borderline playoff team right now--despite what the "experts" have said about them--and that they will really explode next season.

vince is still a stud. Name another star player that is more concerned with sharing the ball and getting assists than he is? He doesn't care about stats; he cares about winning, which requires that he share the ball and get the kids involved. He is happily serving as both the starting SG AND the backup PG. He is a great mentor to the young kids. And he is playing pretty strong defense.

The Nets' backcourt of Devin Harris and Vince Carter, with Dooling as the primary backup, is one of the best in the league in my view. Devin and Vince mesh very well with each other.

The game tonight (against Cleveland) will be fun to watch, so you can see that he really hasn't lost anything. I'm guessing that these rumours have started as a result of this game.

    [from bleacher report]

What a joke. Clearly on the downside of his career? "Complete their overhaul?" This clown is just making things up and selling it as news. Vince is NOT on the downside of his career. He played two-thirds of last season on an ankle that needed surgery! Despite that, he has missed something like just ten games since becoming a Net four or five years ago.

It makes no sense for the Nets to trade Carter "just because." Kidd forced his way out of town by acting like a petulent crybaby, and the Nets got a huge haul in return. There were allegedly internal issues with Richard Jefferson, and it was clear that he was not a good mesh with Carter (not to mention that he refused to play defense). They also traded an injury-prone player at the absolute height of his value.

Again, it is FAR more likely, in my view, that the Nets ACQUIRE an impact player than deal Vince.

Interesting. I would like to see it happen. But I don't think Carter and LeBron pushes anyone over the top. I am not saying Kidd is LeBron, but when Kidd was with Carter. They couldn't seal the deal. LeBron came just as close as Kidd, Carter and Jefferson with no one.

Jordan is and was a horses behind, LeBron isn't (yet, anyway).

i absolutely don't think lebron with leave unless the cavs do so really stupid things between now and then.

but i still don't see teams like the nets going out of their way to ensure that he stays in cleveland by making them the favorite to win the title this year.
