It has been a year.... do you think he told them in his interview that he wanted the job, but he'd leave if a better one opened up in the next year?

Taggart doesn't strike me as the type to recruit hard a bunch of guys only to unfulfill his end of the bargain.
If he were for sure staying, he would have already held a press conference saying so, and he'd be on the phone with every recruit telling them that himself. The fact he hasn't done that can only mean one thing: If they make the offer, he's gone. And supposedly he's their leading candidate.
IMO a big part of Helfrich's downfall was Admin not being willing to ante up for an established DC. Neither Pellum or Hoke had ever been one before and they took significantly less then the going Pac 12 rate. They got what they paid for. FSU is reportedly going to offer significantly more for their next Head Coach then what Oregon just extended Taggart and thats without factoring in Florida's lower tax rates. Thinking about this begs the question, does Oregon really have the revenue of the biggest programs or do they need to do it somewhat with smoke and mirrors to compete. Yes I know that Uncle Phil buys the buildings and barber chairs, but if I'm not mistaken, revenue from the gate & merchandise pays the coach's salaries. STOMP
