The trade still sucks  but, yeah he was definitely a case of addition by subtraction; I'd take LaMarcus over him every day, twice a day.

I would, too, but Randolph over Frye FTW.

who would win 1 on 1, drunk ZBO or sober Frye?

Well neither of them are going to play a lick of defense, so I'm guessing the first to 21 would all be settled based on who got the tip, so Frye I guess?

Frye would take outside shots even against no defense. He's not going to make them all.

Which basically tells you everything you need to know about Zbo. If he made $4m/year he would be a great player to have around. At $12m/year (or whatever he makes) - not so much. John Nash FTW.

I think he's worth significantly more than $4 mil/year, but a long-term big money deal wouldn't be a terribly good idea. Randolph brings a lot of value on offense and rebounding. The problem is, his style of play is first-option and he has weaknesses that are deadly for a first option...he doesn't draw a lot of double-teams, he's not a reliable player to dump the ball into and his passing skills aren't good.

If he were the type of player who could function as a complementary player (as he did in his first couple of seasons...fantastic at getting offensive rebounds and cleaning up inside), he'd be a very valuable player.

the past couple systems he's been in have required him to be a primary offensive threat...actually almost every team he's been on has.

Right, and that hasn't led to particularly great offenses. Randolph has skillz, but he's not an ideal first option.

Which does not contradict what I said...

The problem with ZBo is that he is a fantastic 15-20 minutes off the bench scoring threat - but he was paid like a superstar and that put the teams employing him in the position of playing him a lot to justify his salary. Given his bad defense and the bad influence he has on ball movement - paying $4m/year for him is a good deal. Paying more is probably a wise decision, basketball production wise - but you factor in all the other distractions that come with his off-court adventures and locker room influence - and it becomes questionable.

Yeah, I didn't say you were wrong. Just that he's more than merely a better use of Frye's money. A separate point inspired by your words. ;)
