A few years ago when Nate came here, my friend was selling him some shoes at Finish Line. My friend said "So you trying to get them to run more?" Nate replid with "No no man I'm trying to get them to slow it down." You heard it there from the source.. from years ago, from my friend. Boom
Hey idk this so i'm asking. Do you know if his Seattle team (the one that made it to the 2nd round) ran a lot? The one w/ Allen and Lewis?
Urban legend is that they were an uptempo team (I believed it for years) But when you look at tempo statistics, it shows they were not. Nate has been pretty consistent in slowing players down. (If I misread the stats, feel free to correct me!)
Very interesting. I think our team needs to be able to play up tempo. we don't have to be an uptempo team, but if we are a solid defensive team, and a team that can play 1/2 court AND up-tempo, i think we would really accel in the regular season and playoffs.
Batum has looked very good in the open court making some very nice finesse finger roll layups, reminded me of Gervin. While Aldridge is one of the fastest big men in the game. I remember when Oden was at Ohio State he was a gazelle. No reason we should not be able to play both uptempo and a half court game. The problem is, like you said, we don't have a PG that can initiate the fast break often. Maybe Sergio, but he still makes too many turnovers and Nate is quick to pull him because of it. Right now the way Blake is playing I almost would rather have Sergio starting.
Yep. Just look at the Knicks. Oh wait, they just started running, and have beaten the Jazz. They are also 3rd in the league in scoring and have a better record than Portland. Now I know they haven't played our schedule, but still, it's the Knicks. I call total Bullshit on learing to walk before running. We have the players, but we don't have the coach. Push the tempo and get some easy baskets.
The allen and lewis team was an emotion fed team. Went to the playoff twice in five years. They could get up the court, Allen isnt that fast but isnt slow either. Not sure where you all are coming from regarding McMillan criticism. Because the players can't, won't or aren't able to follow a game plan the coach creates, doesn't make the coach bad. It means at least some of the players are not the right fit for the system. I watched him rip it up with Payton many times, he knows what a fast break is and how to run it.
