Not that Zach is anywhere close to where LMA was before he left the Blazers, but Robin Lopez was a beast on the offensive boards for the Blazers when LMA player on the lower block. You guys very well might right, I didn't read much into that other than he didn't want Collins out shooting 3's all game. It seemed like Zach was out there shooting 3's a lot, even though he did have decent post moves.
I thought about this too, but, Is Collins big enough to play center? Yeah quick enough, but he got pushed around pretty bad in the paint this year. I think he is two years away form being a starting center because it will take him that long to get 30-40 lbs of solid muscle on him and not lose his mobility. I dont see Collins as a Center, I see him as a stretch Four. Dirk Style.
Stotts's offense tends to pull the bigs out and try to make them long range shooters. Im not a big fan of that. I think you can get shooters to shoot from outside from any position, but you cant get smalls to pound in the paint, so why take away the optimal advantage the bigs have? Keep them down low, except for picknrolls.. but lets get rid of the picknpop with our bigs. Unless its closer to the FTline than the 3pt line. A bigs biggest advantage will always be downlow, or you shouldn't be considered a true big.
It will be interesting to me how Zach's body matures, Two recent examples to me, are KD he is still skinny, like crazy skinny, and AD he filled out, he's pretty buff at this point. How does Zach fill out? If he gets another 20-30 lbs, he may be able to pass as a center vs certain teams.
I always thought a bigs "jump shot" is a great tool to have, but I'd rather have them 15 feet and in.
I agree, but Id say a minimum of 30#. KD is an interesting comparison . I think Zach might even have a better outside shot that KD when he came into the league, but KD had alot more post move agility. Did KD come in and start playing center? I dont think he did. Zach seems to have the drive like KD, not sure if he has the same confidence level, but sure looks like he could gain that confidence over the next next year. Kd was a mental beast though. I put him up there with the Jordans/Paytons/Kobe/, chris pauls of the world when it comes to killer instinct. Collins hasnt had enough playtime to gain that yet I think because of how little he played in college. KD came straight from highschool though right? EDIT. I was talking about Kevin Garnet the whole time. NOt KD...
I agree. Its a must have tool if you want to own the league and get your defender out a bit, but not to the three point line. Bigs can rarely drive from the three to the hoop. lol.
here ya go. Add 10# and he is still the lightest center in the league(assuming the 40 heaviest in the league are centers). He is and will not be a center until he puts on at least 30#. If we let Nurk walk and let him take the center spot next season, that is a mistake because that will be a 3-5 year project.
I think what makes a lot of guys that are 7 footers so effective in today's game is when they have good ball handling skills. KD handles the ball almost like a guard He has guard like moves to get the hoop. A lot of guys started as pg's and then grow 8 inches and became really, big point guards.
Seriously? Did you watch Durant in college? The guy was one of the best pure shooters from the perimeter and was a dead eye from outside. I like Collins potential but to say he had a better outside shot than KD at the same stage is shocking.
I edited it ... jsut enough to show how much of a dumbass I am, but still got the general point across. lol. But yeah Kevin Garnet I think is a good potential comparison.
