This season, when Bayless plays over 24 minutes, he has good effectiveness points. Under 24 minutes, he sucks. http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketbal...tors/players/jerryd-bayless/gamelog/11/28/444 We used pick #55 to get Mills, but #11 on Bayless. Therefore, Mills has played above expectation, Bayless below, and Mills deserves to be more popular. He is with me.
J~Rush - Exactly, at least Mills runs around trying to shake off his man, while others try to set screens. And Mills can do quick breaks too and pull up a jumper.
Heres more Mills highlights vs the kings on 3/2/11 Bayless stats: 14.6 min per game (last 10 games) 7.7 points per game, 3.4 assists per game, 2.4 rebounds per game, 12.92 PER. Mills stats: 9.3 min per game (last 10 games) 5.9 points per game, 2.0 assists per game, 0.9 rebounds per game, 13.46 PER Its too bad mills doesn't get more minutes then it would be a better comparison.
Bayless is a small Roy, and just as out of place on this team as Roy has always been. The team plays better without either. Mills shows a team-oriented leadership quality neither displayed.
the fact we arguing between bayless and mills says all you need to know about our backup pg situation.
I think Patty has done a good job at backup PG. He's been improving throughout the season and that encourages me.
I agree. I don't think he's our PGOTF, but he can be a solid backup in this league, and he's only going to improve with experience.
Patty provides a spark. He penetrates and puts pressure on the defense. He can hit a shot from deep, and he can get a shot off. He is our best backup PG at the moment. Still, I think we need to upgrade to the BUPG position for next season. Can Patty be that better PG? I don't know. Watching Lowry destroy us made me realize how much we need to retool the PG position to take the next step. If we could get a decent, quick, young PG (Harris would have been just fine), and move Andre to the bench next year, with a couple of shooters (Roy, Rudy, Batum) next to him on the second unit, that would be swell.
Point guard? Hmmm ... I guess you and I differ on what constitutes a "point guard." If you are referring to a basketball player that can dribble the basketball, shoot and is between 5'9" and 6'4" then yes, he's an OK "point guard." If you think point guards should be able to set an offense, get other players easier shots, guard their counterpart and score as needed then I'm not so sure he falls into that classification. As for who was available off the waiver-wire that would be better than him, I don't know. But I think that moving forward the team has to find a more viable option off the bench and eventually to replace Miller. If they want to keep Patty around for emergency depth like a 12th-15th man, third on their depth chart then he's perfectly adequate, but let's not make him out to be something that he isn't just because he wears a Blazers uniform and he's got a nice personality.
I'd say about half the teams in the league don't have that guy available as their starting PG, let alone have redundancy at the backup.
I'd say all of the following possess the necessary qualities to one degree or another (some obviously better than others) Starters: Kidd, Nash, Billups, Calderon, Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Miller, Deron, Harris, Lawson/Felton, Parker, Paul, Jennings, Conley, Holiday, Lowry ... the list goes on, but those are the first guys that immediately sprang to mind (and without looking anything up). You're right that most teams don't have two high quality point guards and there's a spectrum of quality amongst the names I listed, but the you'd still call each of them a "point guard" at least capable of running an offense. I'm not saying Patty is valueless, I'm just saying he's not really a point guard.
Fair enough that Patty is better, but when Bayless went off for his career high against the suns my date was so exited that certain things took place outside the RG. When Patty does that for me, then he can take over for J-bay. Anyway, yeah, Patty is killing it in many aspects. I'd like to see him get more garbage time but this team doesn't seem to have much of that.
with all the talk on PG possibilities, is Petteri Koponen injured? Just did a quick google search and there aren't any recent links on his play STOMP
Mills - one of the nicest Blazers ever, fan favorite, teammates love him. Bayless - one of the most arrogant Blazers ever, teammates werent to sad to see him go.
Then you should write a letter to PA about why he keeps on picking young point guards or really expensive ones. I can think of several PG's that turned out to be bad either in the public eye's view or were worse than P.Mills..... Telfair, Damon Stoudamire (pot), Taurean Green.
