College expansion has been a wild ride over the past year or so, and it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon.

The Big Ten has spearheaded the movement. The storied conference adds USC and UCLA in 2024. It may not be done, either.

Barstool Sports' Jack McGuire is hearing a rumor that the Big Ten is adding four schools this week: Clemson, Florida State, Oregon and Washington.

That would poach two universities from the ACC - arguably its top-two athletics programs - and two from the Pac-12 - arguably its best as well, even with USC and UCLA in the mix.

Oregon and Washington have been rumored to the Big Ten for a while now, but the rumors died down recently. But Colorado's abrupt exit to the Big 12 has pretty much re-opened the door.

The expectation is that the Pac-12 is done for. Eventually, schools like Arizona, Arizona State and Utah will likely head to the Big 12. Oregon and Washington need a new home, and each belongs in the Big Ten.

SEC. But the Big Ten might want to enter the Florida recruiting market and tap into the Clemson roots.

Buckle up. It could be a busy week in college athletics.

That doesn't sound like a guy ready to move into the Big Ten.

I didn't read that much into it. Sounded like a dig at the folks making Colorado's exit to be a big deal.

I don't think Lanning will have a seat at the table when Oregon is weighing out conference options (assuming they have multiple options).

Any AD allowing his football coach, especially with one year head coaching experience, to have influence on a decision that could impact department budgets for decades would be foolish in my opinion.

the AD doesn't have any real influence on alignment either. they can have some input, but ultimately these decisions are made in the offices of university presidents/chancellors and the boards of regents overseeing the institutions

in the case of the Pac-12, it's been the bad decisions from Presidents and regents that have mostly dug the hole the Pac-12 is in; and the hole is looking more and more like a grave. USC is also accountable

I hope both UCLA & USC get crushed “Big”time once they leave the PAC.

Honestly, if the Ducks do end up in the B1G, I like the media deal. Looks like nearly all of the good games will be on broadcast TV until the playoffs... Just get an antenna and call it good. Sign up for whatever entry level package you need for a month for playoffs and you're set.

Unless FOX is running some of the later games on their cable channels... that could bite me...

And at this point, you really can't blame the Ducks for leaving (or any other team, for that matter), if that's what they decide. After losing USC and UCLA and the PAC's horrible looking (thus far) media rights deal, it's really leaving them no choice.

I know many could care less about Buffs leaving and even Lanning eluded to it as not a big deal, however if you consider they are taking one of the larger TV markets with them in Denver plus, its certainly does matter. Also, Neon deon has generated a bunch of made for tv hype.

How big are the tv markets of the SEC compared with the old PAC 12?

Does the Big 10 even invite Oregon and Washington at this point? I don’t think they have a choice but to sign this shit deal if nobody is inviting them

Honestly, OSU & WSU need to sue USC for damages. USC was actively working against Pac-12 expansion while at the same time negotiating a deal to leave. Conflict of interest and possible intentional sabotage.

Yup. As a huge Duck fan I really feel bad for OSU and Wazzu.

All this is a fate worse than death. It's the slow decline and eventual end of their program. Wazzu is one of the most remote campuses in college football, which makes recruiting pretty tough. Their biggest draw to their program is that they get to play at Pac-12 level. Getting all those players that other Pac-12 schools passed up and playing up the chips on their shoulders is how they get recruits. It's how they got Klay Thompson and Gardner Minshew for example.

Now if they’re in the Mountain West, they don't have that asset of saying we play at P5 level. And at that point, what makes them different from others in the Mountain West, like Wyoming or CSU or Nevada?

Their recruiting will drop and their performance level will drop too. Those programs will never see the highs it saw in the early 2000s again where they were on the doorstep of the national title game.

Donations will dry up which is especially terrible since they weren't great to begin with. Their athletic departments are already bleeding in the red. Other sports will suffer and eventually be canceled until all that's left is football and then that will eventually go quietly into the night.
