The Drudge Poll is on his WWW site. It's the random Internet visitors to his site. He gets billions of page views a month.

Well I'm guessing a majority of the voters are Republican, or they were watching a different broadcast than me. I didn't see it as being a landslide victory for either side, but I do think Biden won.

If it was an "even playing field". however, based on expectations, huge Palin win.

I thought Biden won the debate on issues, and neither beat out the other for image. Neither projected unlikeability.

Palin won in terms of expectations. How much that matters remains to be seen. The spin from the GOP was always "If she doesn't embarrass herself, she's the winner and America will embrace her." However, I see it as likely, or more likely, that most Americans, especially undecided voters, don't care about whether she "beats the narrative" and just care who looks like a better candidate. In that, I think Biden won. And without any Nixon or Gore "better on the issues but was unlikeable to watchers."

Either way, though, I don't think anything happened in this debate that fundamentally changes the game. Biden played it politically safe and, an important thing I thought, kept the focus on John McCain, not on Sarah Palin. So, no chances of looking like a "bully."

Sure the game was changed. The image of a bumbling Palin is quashed quite a bit. people were waiting for her to pull a Quayle at this debate, which she didn't.

I wasn't basing it upon expectations. I was watching both candidates to see which one looked like the better candidate and which ideas I felt I agreed with. (I don't agree with everything and Biden is a bit of a suck up lol, just in the sense he disagreed with Obama on issues before the campaign, and his experience, but now pushed that all aside.)

Truth be told, I would probably be more comfortable with Biden over McCain, Obama or Palin. I thought he wasn't bad. However, it was his job to hit it out of the park and Palin to fail. didn't happen.

Palin did okay. She did seem to talk about energy no matter what the question was. And her comment "I've only been at this, what, 5 weeks?" didn't seem to sit well with people. She won the "Is Palin really as dumb as she sounds?" debate, but lost the Obama vs. McCain debate. Biden was doing a great job of hitting on the correct talking points all night, and they went unanswered for the most part.

What? Biden did not have to hit anything out of the park. They have a huge advantage in the polls, so anything close to 50/50 is a win for him.

again, it at a minimum, stopped much of the negative association of Palin as a liability for the McCain camp. she held her own tonight, didn't look horrible. so on that regard, it was a definite win for her.

Yes, Biden did have to hit it out of the park. All week...well, ever since the RNC, all we're hearing was that Palin is going to fall flat on her face, Biden is goign to eat her up, etc.

That isn't going to turn around the polls. People weren't choosing Obama over McCain simply because she made some silly gaffes to Katie Couric. Palin hasn't been much of a factor, for all the spin...positive or negative. She essentially gave the campaign a big bump when she was announced and gave her RNC speech due to the novelty factor and then all of that bump drained away because she had nothing to contribute beyond that. The new-ness factor is gone. She didn't make herself look any worse, but simply not looking like a fool isn't going to transform the race.

It wasn't a game breaker (maybe decent performance if you want to make that case), this election is probably over.

I never said its going to turn the polls around. What its going to do is to take Palin off as a huge liability for McCain, which she has been the last 2 weeks after the Couric interview, etc.

What are we talking about? Meeting expectations or affecting the polls? If it's meeting expectations, who cares? It's about who wins the election, not the debates.

And this performance helped McCain and Palin. Palin was seen as a liability, but now that she held her own in a debate she was supposed to be embarrassed in, it stops that attack angle for the most part.

We will see. I guarantee you will not see a change in the polls.
