Maybe that's you then, but I enjoy knowing why people think I'm wrong, even if it is something that might seem irrelevant. In this case...I don't see how it's irrelevant based on the setting. It's a BASKETBALL FORUM. Seems like the right time, right place for a debate over the top 5 PFs if you ask me. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking that though, who knows....
dirk has always been an underrated defender(the same could be said for gasol). once you're given that reputation, it's a hard one to get rid of. as far as rebounding is concerned, dirk is a better defensive rebounder than gasol. dirk's defensive rebound rate is higher while gasol's offensive rebound rate is higher(and by a larger percentage than dirk's to make him the overall better rebounder by a small margin). and for all gasol does in the post, dirk still overall is a better offensive player than him. i didn't forget. i was just bringing up that their current production is similar(though i would give bosh slight edges in defense and rebounding). when two guys have similar production but one is getting it done as a guy with the defense focused on him and the other guy is doing it alongside kobe bryant, i'd say that guy doing it alone has been a little better. doesn't matter much, just when i was checking a few things i noticed it. of course, he's not a bad rebounder either. him and dirk are on similar levels there. and like i said, based purely on this season, you'd have to say gasol has been more productive. but when you take into account that the suns have been going through shaq more often and have taken away touches for amare with the acquisition of jrich and what amare has done in the recent past, i think it's pretty simple to still be able to consider him the better player of the two. and your statement about dunking isn't true. this year while amare has dunked on a higher percentage of his shots(16% for amare to 13% for gasol) more of gasol's dunks have been assisted(79% for pau and 66% for amare). and overall they've been assisted on baskets the same percentage of the time.
Cool. Dirk and Bosh are better, I have no problem with that. I still don't see it with Amare though, I don't really see any facet of the game that Amare exceeds Pau in, except for athleticism and flashiness. Amare was most successful, or at least IMO, most successful with the Suns when Mike D'Antonio and the run and gun offense was being implemented, and players look better in a run and gun offense, at least offensively. Not to mention Amare has attitude problems and isn't much of a team player, unlike Pau. Obviously that doesn't take into account talent, but if I'm looking to win a championship, I'm taking Pau.
I don't mind conceding Bosh, but I have a problem with Dirk. The only thing Dirk can do Pau can't is shoot the three ball.
Pau > Dirk on the boards Pau > Dirk on defense Pau > Dirk with foot work Pau > Dirk with the left hand Dirk > Pau on the perimeter Pau = Dirk in the mid range Pau > Dirk passing
