OKC forums are going to be great to read when PG13 convinces Westbrook to leave with him to LA next year. Thats what you get for taking the Sonics from Seattle, 9 great years of basketball then your fucked.
Takes spending money to make money. Have to take some risks. I like Sabonis, but the guys they gave up were not much. And to get rid of Dipo's contract.... Presti was able to get out of that, and is both players walk, he'll make the most of it. Westbrook's situation is not so tied to PG's, though I think making a move for PG let's him know that at least they're trying to put a team around him. They were not "destroyed" by the move, regardless of what PG does next year.
Do I get to say I told you so? They didn't get shit really since they didn't trade before the draft...
They could have still acquired more than shit. They chose to take a lesser offer. The Boston offer and others were still on the table.
They would have been anyway if Westbrook left. Now, at least if he leaves, they won't be saddled with Olidipo's bad contract, will have a shit load of cap space and all of their draft picks. Yeah, if they lose their best player they will have to rebuild, but unlike the Nets, they will have all of their draft picks and a ton of cap space to begin rebuilding. I really don't see any downside. I don't think this trade will negatively impact Westbrook's decision. If anything being relevant for a year may convince him management is serious about winning. Plus, OKC has the ability to offer him a super duper max contract in the $220 million range, That's about $75 to $80 million more than the Lakers, or anyone else will be able to offer him. BNM
While the odds may be high that PG13 leaves, I really don't see Westbrook leaving. OKC has the ability to make him the highest paid player in the league (as of today) at about $220 million. No one else can come close to that (about $140 million). I don't think it's really about the dollars I think it's about ego. If he leaves and signs with the Lakers next summer, by then, there will probably be a couple dozen players making > $140 million. Do you really think Russell Westbrook would settle for Mike Conley money when he could be the highest paid player in the league? BNM
Yeah, NBA players get like 3-4 months of offseason at least so he could get enough time off to enjoy California's best. During regular season you get feck all time to enjoy life.
That's a good point. I do remember that he said he wanted to stay on for the draft now that you mention it.
Remember when Pritchard said he was waiting on the best deal and that he was in no hurry? this was definitely an emotional decision, Boston had the best offer, Portland probably had a pretty good one too but he settled for Oladipo and Sabonis like what the fuck. This is what you waited two weeks for?!?!
Im sure others mentioned this, but oladip went to the university of indiana, so this is probably a tad bit easier to sell to the fan base. Kinda like how everyone here had a boner for the oregon players even though its unlikely they do shit in the nba.
