Its become so ingrained in the culture here in SF that its jarring when I'm outside the area and find out that Uber isn't available. It really is a great example of a new technology totally and utterly kicking the living shit out of the existing model. There is literally zero advantage to taking a taxi, its a worse all around experience and product. I'm not a female so perhaps my perspective is different, but I'm more sketched out by taxi drivers than anyone who's ever Uber'd me anywhere. The cab drivers are still randos and they're often standoffish/rude/weird. Uber drivers are generally more friendly, they have an incentive to provide a pleasant experience, they almost always offer you water or sunglasses and shit like that, and they're just flat out way more convenient and reliable.
I'm using UBER POOL in LA lately. Its fucking amazing. I can get anywhere on my side of town for $5. Anywhere on the other side of town for $15. Its just a carpool. Fucking amazing.
