so, to get this 5-14 pick, we need pelicans not to make the playoffs, is that correct

But also not to tank so much that they get picks 1 - 4

theyre not going to the playoffs, no chance (at least without zion)

they stand no chance against timberwoles, clippers or lakers

lakers suck, but lebron & davis would kick them out in the play-in if it comes to that point

They need to not make the Playoffs, and then not get lucky and have the pick fall into the Top-4. Doubtful they would fall that far on their own.

If they are in a play-in with the L*kers, the Pels will be facing some serious 8 on 5 action.

I wouldn’t say that right now, that trade could give them a huge boost, just like Nurkic gave the Blazers that boost when he came in 2017. The Lakers are a mess and have a brutal schedule, they are washed, i dont know if they catch the Clippers, hopefully not, and then there are still the Timberwolves 7 wins ahead of the Pelicans, but they are still the Timberwolves so you cant trust them

No. If the pelicans miss the playoffs they will be entered into the lottery. The lottery determines the top four picks. The teams with the worst records will get a better chance to be one of the 4 winners in the lottery.
but the pelicans will still have a chance to be one of those four teams.
If they do win one of the 4 lottery picks, then Portland does not get the pick.
Portland will get the pick if 1.The pelicans miss the playoffs and 2. The pelicans do not win one of the four lottery pics.

That will be where the worst 4 teams are slotted, but that isn't necessarily who picks there. The year the Blazers got Oden, thy were well outside the ranking of the #1 or Top-3 teams in terms of record. So if the Pelicans get lucky and their pick jumps up into the Top-4, even if they finish say #8 record wise, they would keep the pick.

That pick would be from the Milwaukee Bucks, so depend on the Bucks' win/loss record.

The Pelicans have the 7th toughest remaining schedule, and the Blazers have the 27th toughest. The Pelicans are only one game ahead of the Blazers for the last play-in spot.
If the Blazers fail at tanking, they might succeed in passing New Orleans and keeping the Pelicans from the playoffs.
