Woah, didn't mean to get you all riled up there. Just pointing out that if they hold the sale hostage and stretch it out then the moves the team makes won't be nearly as productive. That hurts the fans doesn't it?
In theory the same is true of the Seahawks - but they have made no steps in that direction either. You will note that neither the NFL nor the NBA seem to care. If the trust provisions were that iron-clad, the leagues would be leaning on Jody to get it done and avoid legal entanglements. Instead, they seem just fine with Jody keeping the teams indefinitely.
People are forgetting that Adam Silver already confirmed that a condition of the trust is that they have to sell.
I heard today that Vulcan is trying to find a way to keep the team past the selling date that's in the stipulations of the estate...to me that's not holding it hostage but weighing your options...and it won't bother me as a fan whether Jody or Phil owns it...if I had a choice I'd love to see Phil buy it but I've mentioned why..the rest is just autographs ..I'm far from riled up...just find that you were posting about my post and nothing about the topic. If I own something I'm not holding it hostage by not selling it but it is entirely possible they have other offers..I don't discount that possibility at all. I can say about Jody the same I said about Phil....hopefully for the Dame era they won't shy from the luxury tax and go all out to win...that's the fan in me talking.Jody could open the checkbook just like Phil ....I'm not assuming that's not on her radar. Fact is we don't know, it's all speculation
I would assume that has nothing to do with Silver...it's for Paul Allen's trusts lawyers and board of directors to work out I'd think....Silver just approves a sale pending from what I understand. How does Paul's estate contract have any connection to Silver?
New owners generally like to have a shiny new arena when they buy a team. Especially if they can get the city to pay for most of it lol.
I don't have any inside information. I don't care what the Vulcans or Jody or the Blazers are saying. As long as Phil Knight doesn't die in the next two years, I expect this sale to happen. It's going to have to happen at some point. It seems to me this is the best scenario for all involved. Paul Allen's trust probably gets more than the team is worth. The Blazers get local owners who aren't afraid to spend. This makes too much sense not to go down.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Phil spruced up his original offer...him having a pro team in Portland would be great incentive for shoe endorsement clients to want to work for him in Portland. Pretty tantalizing lobby for free agents
I do but she doesn't need to...investment group is built into her network with Vulcan...she just sold all his acreage and his properties in Hollywood for a freakin' fortune...money is Jody's last problem..she also sold his yacht and submarine..
I don't know anything about any of that. My understanding is she's pretty frickin' wealthy from Paul's estate...he had no wife or children and she was his choice for his inheritance. That's a big chunk of change
Yeah, I think she's probably a billionaire, but not like the 7 or 8 billion she'd need to buy a team and convince the NBA she'd have liquidity to be a healthy franchise.
