<div class="quote_poster">Laker_fan Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">One thing we have to understand is that GM's are reluctant to send an All Star to the Lakers because they know the potential consequences. Teaming the best player in the league with a fellow All Star means that we are going to be a force, hence the players the other team recieves are not likely to help that team to many championships. </div> That may be a concern, however for Eastern teams that aren't very close to contending to a title (Boston, New Jersey, Indiana, Minnesota and Memphis in the West), I think they wouldn't be worried about the Lakers unless they thought they would be playing the Lakers late in the playoffs. I think its more a matter of wanting to get close to equal value for their star, and getting youth or picks for the future. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I can't think of a time when an All Star player was sent to a team which already had one of, if not the best player in the league.</div> I guess it depends on the definition of one of the best players in the league, but AI to a team with Melo, Camby, and Nene Tmac to a team with Yao Ming Shaq to a team with Dwyane Wade Lamar Odom to a team with Kobe Vince Carter to a team with JKidd and RJ I don't know nba's history too well, but did any of Barkley, Wilt, Kareem, Moses Malone, or Clyde (an allstar to the Rockets with Hakeem) get traded?

Also, Melo has alot to do, he's only just broken into the All Star team. T-Mac was traded for Steve Francis, who at the time was an All Star. Wade wasn't a star until Shaq arrived. Lamar Odom was again traded for arguably the most dominant player in the league at the time. Kidd is great but Toronto were forced to trade Carter as he wouldn't have continued to play. Although I agree with what you say about the teams in the East. However, the ones that we want to trade with (Indiana for O'Neal and Boston for Pierce) are also an All Star player away from being a solid contender. I don't think they would let their superstar go unless they get one in return (like the McGrady-Francis trade).
Did somebody call Paul Pierce injury prone? He's only missed 10 or more games once and now he's injury prone? I highly doubt the Celtics would even consider this deal. Voodoo Child's assessment is pretty much spot on.
Boston took a severe blow this season during the absense of Peirce, but the tides didn't change much on his return. Its true that it was too late into the season for playoff hopes, but they were trying nevertheless. I think Peirce would fit in well with the Lakers, but Boston would again ask for Bynum and more.
