Maybe it was the "most likely", but it wasn't the plan or goal. The plan (as of last October) was, (paraphrased, since I don't have my notes with me here) from KP's mouth: "we have a target, and have for a while now. He will be signed this summer, or we'll have him here at the deadline, and RLEC will be gone." That doesn't sound like "lopsided trade" to me.
I don't know if not receiving an offer is necessarily telling about their value to the league. It could be that teams aren't wasting their time on making them offers if they think their teams will match. I really wanted Sessions though, I think he would be such a great fit for the Blazers. A guy who can penetrate and get to the lane at will, think about that? A guy who can create offense for the team other than Brandon Roy.
After the blazers acquire Millsap they're next biggest need is for a distributing point guard. A legitimate pass first type point guard. The best point guard prospect available is threatening to stay in Europe because he doesn't want to play for for Minny. Trade Joel Pryz to Minny for Rubio. Hell, with Rubio's skillset, he'd be starting in no time. He'll be by far the best distributor on the team in no time. We need a playmaker. Let Joel retire in his home state, Rubio gets to play with Rudy, everybody is happy. I think KP already has something in place for our future point guard. If he didn't I think we'd be hearing more about it. Things are just too quiet on the Rubio front... and he just doesn't fit in Minny.
Right, but I don't think the Blazers are getting Millsap. Utah is going to trade Boozer and keep Millsap.
If someone trades for Boozer, Utah won't lose any salary because they have to take back salary in a trade. Utah needs to dump salary. Only a few teams can take a salary dump, Portland, Sacramento and OKC. Plus, Utah's ownership might not be able to scrounge up an extra $10 million on short notice. Car dealers don't usually have that much money laying around.
