Yeah, that's a terrible trade because those players are on the books longer than Simons. If we trade Simons for "nothing" it should be for expirings.

POR is clearly, far and away the worst offensive team. The wins are because Chauncey continues to play JG, AS etc. This is such a huge mistake on his part. Really really inexcusable and proof, imho, of his incompetence. It makes no sense to fight tooth and nail with vets to eek out a win here or there when all it does is lessen the chances of, potentially, drafting a bona fide transformative franchise player. This franchise is in pretty bad shape any way you look at it. The only keepers being Deni and Toumari but neither are ready yet to start for a winning team. Happy to be proven wrong but until I see otherwise SS, SH, and KM are busts. That hurts but what can you do?

The vets must be dealt for picks. A top pick in the upcoming draft is essential.

I disagree. 1-2 seasons ago his breakout was still fresh and there was a narrative that “well he’s avg 23 a game in his first extended run, he’s only 24, how much better might he get?”

That potential value and upside narrative is now gone. Similar to CJ actually, who we could have traded with picks for PG in his prime. By the time we traded CJ, there was no perceived potential left.

I’ve been saying this for awhile now. One of the traits of a bad GM is holding onto players too long and they get exposed and their value plummets.

I mean sure but what’s the alternative? Benching both and playing them 10 min a game? Chauncey is a bad coach who should not return next year but the roster mismatch and unnecessary vets are cronin’s fault.

    #23 picks don’t bust, they’re just #23 picks.

blazers are in need of trades. It won’t be long now.

Holding onto and playing Grant Ayton Ant is idiotic - but that's a failure of Cronin not a failure of Billups.

Roster mismatch notwithstanding, the coach should be able to dictate players' usage in a way that would benefit the team. For Ant/Grant/Ayton, sure they should play (when healthy), but <30 mpg, with the understanding that they are to focus primarily on ball-movement, attacking the rim, taking jump-shots only when assisted and in rhythm, and expending the majority of their energy on the defensive end, with the coach being willing to sit them down for extended stretches if they cannot/will not follow that assignment.

I like him but do you see him as a starter on a very strong team? Defense and heart are his strengths. His offense is really non-existent and his hands don't seem very "sticky" either. I see a place for him on a roster but probably not as a starter. I would prefer to have a JJJ, EM type. Hell even a Zach Collins type of player that can move and create a bit of offense. That said he is looking like a great defender and teammate and that counts for a lot.

Edit: I think it's possible Joe has to wait to dump Simons and Ayton until they are expiring deals. I mean, at this point, it won't be super surprising to see both in POR uniforms next season. Thybulle and Williams III are attractive cheap options for teams. JG is pricey but maybe there will be a team that will take a flier on him?

Would you do this? Obviously you would if we also get our pick back from Chicago, but how about just adding a bit more protection (like 1-20 instead of 1-14)?

The puzzle is why the Bulls would do it. Cuz they're kinda dumb? Cuz they don't value cap space?

Even if Grant, Simons left, we'd still struggle with Chauncy as our coach, and our overall bad shooting. Deni, Camara, and Clingan are defensive specialists. Scoot is just...Scoot. Leaving Sharpe as the lone talented offensive player. But he's yet to reach even the league average in TS%.

If you think that we're winning BECAUSE of Ant and Ayton, all I can say is you haven't been watching the games.
