Didn't you basically just make the case for Portland to keep it's two potential lottery picks for itself?

I think they would rather have the cap space because they are a larger market. Free-agents could sign there, knowing there is a good foundation in place and a lot of endorsements to be made. D Will may even think about it. What if they ended up with #4, #6 and #14 first rounders, 25 mil of cap space and a 25 mil TPE (Portland for Rondo and Pierce)?

They could basically sign all the players they need (fill cap room), then wait and trade part of the TPE for a veteran (12 more mil)? Very flexible, IMO.

I don't think I've ever said that, but I may have. I just see a team like Boston, more capable of landing top tier free-agents than we can. Giving up Rondo and Pierce's legacy might be worth it to them. Would it be worth it to us if we had the #5 pick (New Jersey) and the #14th pick (ours) for Pierce and Rondo?

I imagine looking for a player, if it were a trade, he'd be 26-30, and have a contract of at least 2 more years to make a deal justifiable for the team. List of possibilities, in who might be available for a good lotto pick, who might have been offered to chad already, who might fit criteria:

Rondo, granger, Iguodola, Gay, Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings, Deron, as a FA, Tony Parker.

You aren't getting my point. The post I quoted makes that case. The Blazers would be far better off to add two 5-10 lotto picks and sign a good free agent or two (likely not top tier guys) vs. adding an over the hill small forward and a head-case point guard who can't shoot. I know you and I know what you're thinking, you want the Blazers to be an elite team by the second week of next season, but realistically it could and probably will take this team a couple of years to right the ship; there aren't any shortcuts for a small market team.

I'm a homer, so I can't condone anything but win now. Sorry, I'm all about blazers winning now, tomorrow and forever. All I need to see is effort and I'm happy.

there's always shortcuts, and the easiest are trades.

Portland offers Matthews and their lotto pick to Philly for Iguodola. Philly cuts 7 or 8 million in salary and adds a lotto pick. They played well at the beginning of the year, but are not an elite team, and likely won't be as constructed. Do they do it? I dunno. I can see good reason for them to, and go forward with Jrue, Matthews, Turner, Thaddeus Young, Vucevic as their nucleus, as well as a lotto pick.

With cap space, convince Deron his best bet for winning is to join a lineup of Deron/Iguodola/Batum/Aldridge/NJ lotto pick(drummond?)

    ok, /pipe dream

I like the fact that Buchanon is actually laying out a game plan. Giving us fans atleast some hope that they really want to improve the team over the offseason.
