It’s the okay sign. Not white power. This literally started under a year ago when 4chan trolls came up with this in an attempt to make the media and others believe it. One outlet ran with it and ever since then it seems other people have now decided that’s the sign as well because of the trolling of 4chan. It’s completely made up. It’s the okay sign. Anybody who tries to go along with the other narrative lives in silly fairy tale land. This is why I fight a lot of political correctness. It gets overly insane and ridiculous

...hmmm, very compelling reply...but the inescapable fact is that you fucked up and you still refuse to own up to it.

...yeah, right. You have a very imaginative contextual view of who said what and when they said it...terrible, simply terrible.

I know exactly what I said. I said you have said that before with the emoji or whatever. Even if you didn’t say the exact same thing, you have done something similar. That’s all I said. You follow with blah blah blah you must apologize and stfu blah blah. I don’t know what you’re going on about or what the big deal is.

You are 100% correct about the origins. And it was an A+ troll job. The problem now though, is that symbolism evolves and changes. It isn't static. People who are actual white supremacists can now do that troll OK gesture and have plausible deniability afterwards. The troll job was so effective because of that. First, they can make fun of anyone who takes it seriously, and afterwards, they can call anyone who doesn't buy their excuse unhinged. And even if the dumb made up gesture gets co-opted by actual racists jack offs, anyone using it has plausible deniability forever basically .

To me, regardless of how it originated, if someone uses symbolism like that now, after it's all out in the open, they are a racist dick. The meaning and symbolism has changed since the creation. Context is a bitch.

I disagree. This literally has meant okay for the last how many years?! And now under a year of media reporting it’s not that sign anymore just means it’s some white supremacist sign? that’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. With that logic if the media tells you for a year something, anything, you should believe it and that’s what it means now. Take any word or symbol, it can just be changed in a few months. Come on now. Let’s not go too off the deep end is all I’m saying.

Dviss you are too emotional buddy. Who is defending racists and what evidence do you have of this accusation?

The proper sign is actually just an open hand but I think that looks stupid.

I get what you are saying, but you are using extremes here.

Think of it like slang vocabulary. If you make up a new shitty definition to some benign word it might just end up being an inside joke to you and your friends. But, if you do it on a site with millions of viewers, like 4chan or reddit, it might just catch on. The concept of any term or symbol can easily take on new meanings. In this case, is it there yet? Probably not. But, the connotations are beginning to change.

Please don't make me bring up specific historical examples of words and/or symbolism changing rather quickly. I'm sure you can think of some on your own. You are a smart guy.

I'm just saying, if you can recognize the bait (and people do bait you) why take it? Not necessarily referencing that specific comment.

It’s not that simple though. Okay so let’s just say now according to some people it is some white supremacist symbol. There are still millions out there who use it to this day and think it means okay because for years and years that’s what it has been. So for the people still using it, are they white supremacists?

I don’t feel like I was baited, I kinda just actually wondered why he got so upset by it. That’s it.

That's what I was referencing. I see it used in almost all levels of basketball, at least.

I never questioned any of that, I just asked a referee a referee question.
