Had you not heard the Malone thing before? It comes up quite often in places like Reddit.

There is a bit of a double standard especially locally for each case.

I like the hire, really do, but all the crap bums me out. Especially those who hammer Dame. They asked him who he liked, he responded. Now some want to indict him as if he did wrong. TOTAL B.S. I really like Chauncey, think he's a good dude, and great basketball mind. I believe in second chances. He's been a stellar citizen in the Denver Community. That doesn't excuse rape, EVER! Sexual Assault is never OK. Nobody, Ever!, has it coming. But Chauncey has said, his part in this was consensual. And while there was a settlement, there were no charges against him filed. There are only 2 people who know the truth. So i am going to support him to the fullest as Blazers Coach. And wish him the Very Best in rip city!

As this incident happened when he was a nobody and then he bounced around before settling in Detroit and becoming Mr. Big Shot -- wasn't his whole career a "second chance"? I guess the secret is to get away with something* when you're a nobody and then become famous so that when it finally comes out all your fans will instantly forgive you.

    *Allegedly.

Have I said anything different ever?

Have there been any issues off the floor with anyone under Olshey?

This new Dame is so strange. I never thought there was even a chance of him leaving, now it wouldn't surprised me in the least. So it goes, I suppose...

I like the new you. And the old you. Or the other you. Or you, I guess.

Well, Olshey made the right calculation judging by the results of this poll.

I chose the third option: “I'm honestly confused - I don't like the accusation but I trust the vetting process.” Not really sure how I could go with any of the other choices. If the accusation is true, then I don’t give a rat’s ass how good of a coach he is. Someone who could do that to a woman shouldn’t ever be allowed to be the face of leadership in professional sports. OTOH, the choice that an accusation should automatically disqualify him is just wrong. Accusations are not proof and the civil settlement does nothing to determine guilt or innocence. I’d be “sad” if the Blazers were unwilling to consider an otherwise qualified candidate simply because someone had accused them of something, even something as egregious as rape. It sounds as if the Blazers have done a thorough investigation and it matched what Billups had to say about the event. I’m going to be very interested to hear what is said on Tuesday about that.

I would have chosen the 3rd option, but I don't trust the vetting process.

I know we like to hate on Olshey... at least I do but this situation is pretty hard for him to have actually fucked up. He knows about 1997, the team spends a couple of days vetting that incident after they decide on Chauncey. The team sees the public outcry not to hire Chauncey but the team goes with him anyway, just like ESPN did and just like the Clippers did. There must be compelling information that clears Chauncey's name otherwise why would Disney, Steve Ballmer and the Paul Allen Trust all put their reputations on the line for this guy?

The wouldn't do it. It would have been so much easier to tell Mike D'Antoni to come on down but that's not what the team did. I have no information of my own that clears Chauncey Billups but common sense does go a long way in situations like this one.
