Young and Lavine for CJ would be an absolute steal for Portland.

Maybe we can get their first round pick also. :devilwink:

I disagree. Although CJ is now certain to be moved because an article came out about how he and Dame were besties and we know what happens to Dame's friends, I think Lavine is the Shareef Abdur-Rahim of shooting guards - empty calories. If we're getting Bulls players, I want Porter, but not for CJ.

There are better values to be had than Porter as he has only played in 70 games total the last 2 seasons and has a huge contract. We need to try and avoid salary cap purgatory. Also, if he opts in (which seems to be an obvious choice) then he is only good for one year before having to negotiate a new contract and he can walk for nothing.

Lavine may be "empty calories", but so is CJ. IMO those two would basically be an even swap. Adding Young, who feels like a great fit at PF in this system (I must admit, I've coveted him for years), makes it lopsided in our favor.

If you say McCollum and Lavine are essentially similar (equal) then why does Chicago throw in a quality player who on his own could bring in a decent piece. Ask yourself this, if you were Chicago would you give up 2 starters for McCollum?

Spoiler alert Olshey will never trade CJ. He’ll get fired before that happens.

But yes we need a PF. Millsap is a FA. How much will he cost? He’s going on 36.

Milsap is a good pf, but he has only averaged 56 games per season over the last 4 seasons and he's not getting younger so it wouldn't be surprising if that trend continues or even gets worse. It would have to be a very reasonable contract for maybe 3 years with a team option.

You must have missed the posts where I said that would be lopsided in our favor and an absolute steal for us. It wasn't my trade suggestion--I was just commenting thereupon.

I didn't miss your comment but it was a bit strange to make a trade proposal that you knew wasn't realistic then.

Again--not my suggestion. I was responding to @perkinsfor3. But thank you for your input.

OK, how about CJ plus Collins for Love, Sexton and Cedi Osman?

I would only do this deal if we got every Cavs first rounder for the next decade, completely unprotected. Make that two decades.

well, you did repost it and in essence endorsing it by doing so and then following up the discussion by defending the idea. If you didn't at least somewhat agree with it then why repost it and then follow up defending it? Oh well no biggie. Moving on.

Ugh, no. Even though Sexton isnt as bad as advertized by some. However, I dont think he moves the needle. The other two, meh. And Cavs wont do it either.

Regarding the Bulls - I would like Thad Young, Shaquille, Dunn and Hutchinson.

We could sign Shaquille Harrison right away. Prpblem with him, is that he has limited height. Good defender though. And iirc he's a free agent, and peobably one of the under the radar ones. Dunn is the other one and even though I love his defense, he can't shoot. He can play with both CJ and Dame, though and he can handle the ball a bit, unlike Shaquille. Shaq has a QO of 1.7M (might/should get) and Dunn of 7M (doubt it).

The problem with acquiring Thad, is that we'd need to give up either CJ or Ariza. Moving Thad for Ariza doesn't make much sense if we'd keep Melo around imo. If we'd be interested in Hutchinson, we'd probably need to give up Zach Collins (and Kornet would come back our way alongside Hutchinson - both good fits), IF the Bulls are willing to give Zach a look.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here on contracts.

Harkless is obviously a UFA, but that wouldnt move the needle at all. There aren't many UFA options this summer at SF which would help us more than having Ariza back: Demarre Carroll, Crowder, Solomon Hill, MKG, RHJ, Wilson Chandler, Thabo, Stanley Johnson, Josh Jackson, Evan Turner. Meh. And the one who would be a good fit, Gallo, is way out of our range, and I'm assuming DJjr is going to stay in Miami (he'd be a good get).

At PF, Milsapp, as someone mentioned, would be terrific, at the right price. So would one of the Morrii brothers. Dont want any part of Patrick Patterson or Vonleh. Marvin Williams is UFA, he'd be perfect (I think we'll end up with him). And, even though he doesnt shoot the three, Harry Giles would be interesting, with his upside and passing. Too expensive, I guess, much like Wood, though. Juancho is UFA as well, but I doubt he ever really amounts to something. He has shown flashes.

I was responding based on the below:

Perhaps you weren't suggesting they'd trade both together, but that was how it read to me.

Why not re-sign Melo? In my opinion, that should be the priority in the off-season. We will need more than just him but he's been a great fit.

Melo looks better at SF. At PF he’s pretty much a liability, especially when defending the pick and roll, and he’s a below average rebounder for the position I’d take him back and let him play both, but we should find someone better at the four. Zach looks like a five that can occasionally play the four, as opposed to a full time four.

We’re really a Lamarcus away from a championship caliber team...how ironic.
