Yes. Assuming Pop could coach for a number of years more (big assumption), he would draw other talent to him and his eye for talent would get you more as well. It will be interesting to see if Kawhi plays as well elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Kawhi, but I think Pops could make Portland a destination and end up having a much bigger and longer legacy.

I'll bet Pop retires either at the end of this season or the end of next season.

He probably will, but he sure looks like he could keep going for another five years.

    Aldridge is the obvious non-choice.

    So Popovich or Leonard?

    Hmmmmm......

You talk about Pop being a FA draw.
SAS has had some good FA signings, but the only big name FA they have gotten is LA

What do we possibly have to compete with this:

So where could he go? As a Southern California native, expect both Los Angeles teams to get involved. The Clippers have the 12th and 13th picks in this year’s NBA draft to offer, plus whatever combination of players San Antonio would want, and the Lakers have a roster full of young players (Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma, most notably) to use as bait to land a superstar talent that would make it far easier for free agents such as George and LeBron James to look differently at playing for the Lakers.

The Philadelphia 76ers are perhaps the most fascinating potential Leonard destination. With Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid having established themselves as the franchise’s cornerstones, could a package centered around Markelle Fultz and Philadelphia’s two first-round picks in this year’s draft entice the Spurs? The Boston Celtics are overflowing with young players and picks to offer, as well, and already swung a big move last year for Kyrie Irving.

Then there are the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have the Brooklyn Nets’ unprotected first-rounder at their disposal. If that pick is enough to convince the Spurs to move Leonard — say it jumps into the top three in this year’s draft — could his arrival be enough to keep James in Cleveland?

(Philly would be awesome - imagine that team.)

And that had more to do with LaMarshmallow's Mommy as it did with Pops.

Player win in the NBA. Kawhi, and it's not close. If healthy, Portland is 2-0 in this series with Kawhi instead of CJ.

Not that this series is his fault

Pop. And it isn't close. For what he'd bring on the court and behind the scenes in the FO.

Kawhi's shoulder scares me. And his character is in serious question after he quit on his team this year. Aldridge has maybe 2 yrs left.

Wonder what it would take to get him on as a consultant in the Jerry West role.

Lakers aren't offering Ball or Ingram; Kuzma's not getting them Kawhi. Clippers don't really have anything of significance, unless the Spurs actually want Deandre (I doubt it). Cavs would have to match salary, and they don't have anything to send along with that Brooklyn pick that the Spurs would have any interest in.

However, if Philly seriously offered Fultz and 2 picks, then that would trump anything we could offer. And putting Kawhi in-between Simmons and Embiid would be a sick trio.

Ooof - after last night I'm rethinking my answer (previously Kawhi - now POPS!). I don't have any faith that Tater Totts could do anything meaningful with Kawhi.

Popovich is an arrogant asshole. If he were coaching the Blazers I would stop watching.
