If it's a blockbuster I would assume they are looking to make a major upgrade at the point. I also think this writer has absolutely no clue of how the Blazers feel about Rudy Fernandez and what they had to do to get him here. We have a big-4 and Rudy is included. My pipedream (<--Just want to make that crystal clear) would be prying Tony Parker away from the Spurs. PG: Parker SG: Roy SF: Batum PF: Aldridge C: Oden 6th man: Rudy It's nice to dream...
Blake, Fry, Outlaw for Gerald Wallace works but I don't see it happening. If we make any deals I sure hope we send out Blake and Outlaw, because no one else on the team can do any wrong in my eyes.
No thnx to Gerald Wallace. Injuries aside, his contract is ugly. $8,287,500 $9,075,000 $9,862,500 $10,650,000 $11,437,500
In what universe is that a bad contract for a guy who is 26, is a good defender, insanely athletic, good rebounder, and puts up 18-19 points per game? I agree that his concussions are a little worrisome, but his contract more than fairly reflects his value.
You have to think about down the road when Wallace is making $10+ million we still have to resign Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden to long-term deals.
So we end up in luxury tax land. I think PA has shown a willingness to pay for a winner in the past and it's not like we would be prevented from signing our own free agents.
Dave at Blazers edge chimes in: First of all, Raef's contract is bigger than Wallace's. Either there is a third team involved or Portland takes on a player they want to get rid of. And rumors are it's a local boy. This works under the cap: To Charlotte: Raef LaFrentz Travis Outlaw To Portland: Gerald Wallace Adam Morrison
As mentioned from Blazersedge, this trade also works under the cap (and consolidates at the same time) To Portland: Gerald Wallace To Charlotte: Travis Outlaw Steve Blake Channing Frye I'll also mention that I like Wallace and when you factor in Paul Allen, he'd be a great pickup.
I LOVE Wallace, but that seems like a lot. We would lose our backup PF and who would start at the point? They already have 2 PG's anyway. I would love to have Gerald as our starting 3 though!
wallace always seemed like a guy with a chip on his shoulder. a jermaine o neal type. not the kind of character guy we'd want in PDX. but I trust whatever KP does.
Agreed, for what Wallace brings to the table (points, reb, steals, blocks...and sticky "D") that contract is not bad at all. I'm pretty sure that he can shake the injury label once he goes back to playing his more natural position as opposed to playing PF, where he was giving up almost 20-30 pounds to the defender.
That's not that much, besides it's not like you can get something for nothing, the team your trading has to get value as well. Charlotte really only has one PG since Felton is really a SG marqeurading as a PG...lol. Don't let the numbers fool you, just cause the box score says 6-7 assists doesn't mean he knows how to get the team involved, he gets a majority of his assists on breakaways. I think if Portland can get a good energy guy that can play forward and board as well...it would soften the blow of loosing Frye...I'm thinking Jared Dudley. Maybe even a 3 team trade could work....hmmmm...involve memphis and go for Lowry...hmmmmm
I like that trade. I also like the idea of expanding it. To Charlotte: Raef LaFrentz Travis Outlaw Steve Blake Ike Diogu To Portland: Gerald Wallace Adam Morrison Raymond Felton Nazr Mohammed
I really don't see Charlotte agreeing to this. Mohammed is thier only interior defensive threat outside of Okefor...and Felton, can be traded for more in return than Lafrentz' expiring contract...no way this would go down unless a young servicable player is added instead of Diogu...such as Bayless or Batum...it would take something like that for the Bobcats to give up Felton and Mohammed AS WELL as Wallace in a trade
Looking for a blockbuster makes sense. Adding a sure-fire member to the "big three" while maintaining the majority of our young core (which would be the case... no trade is going to drain all of the half-dozen or so of trade-worthy guys we've got) is the best move. I, like others, LOVE Gerald Wallace. He defends well and he's effective even when plays aren't called for him. He's young enough to fit in our window of opportunity and he has a contract that MIGHT make him more attainable than other players of a similar stature. Finally: 27th in power rankings? Haha. Whatever. Ed O.
Individually I love Wallace's game, the D and the hustle/slashing role he plays is a lot of fun to watch. But as far as a piece of the starting unit I don't see him fitting so well with this team, with his lack of outside shooting and what I hope will be more of an inside-out game once Greg is healthy and adjusted. I would have given quite a bit to get Danny Granger from the Pacers, his offensive repertoire fits perfectly with our starting unit and he's got some developing skill on the defensive end as well, plus he fits in perfectly age wise with our core. But with Bird giving him the big extension it's pretty clear they're committed to building with him as a major piece of their foundation, so it's all but impossible to see him coming our way. Another great young wing I'd be ecstatic to make a move for would be Thaddeus Young, he's got such an efficient game, and with adding the 3-ball like he seems to have done this offseason he's got the potential to be an absolute star SF (I already think he's in the same conversation with Durant as far as last years rookie class goes, and if he keeps up what he's started this year I think he's got the potential to be hands down the better of the two). But I can't think of any really likely scenarios where Philly would be willing to part with what looks to be an up and coming allstar.
