I absolutely hope hes ok and Im glad no one else was hurt.
Drinking and driving certainly is serious though. I dont think it comes off as high and mighty to recognize theres consequences for it. Im not calling for him to get fired, or die in a fire or whatever...
I do think he should know better, just like all the other people who do it or have done it probably should have known that it wasnt a great decision. This isnt a mistake Ive personally made, but I have absolutely made many mistakes.

Anyways if he’s got an alcohol problem I really hope this is a “wake up” call for him to get it under control. Hoops made some really good points in my opinion.

Back in the mid 60's people not only drove drunk but with open containers all the time.
Still stupid and dangerous ! many small towns in Oregon (Bend) wouldn't enforce much because taverns were a big business. Boy have things changed and not as much margin for error.

I walk the mountain road I live on most mornings for several miles and always see Booze bottles and beer cans chucked in the ditch...it's still going on out here in logging country. It's the cigarette butts that really piss me off.

The shit where they charge people who slept it off in their car in the parking lot REALLY pisses me off.

Basically, if you have your keys on you and you're in your car, they can charge you with DUII, which to me is complete horse shit. If the car is not in motion and the person is trying to do the right thing, that should not be punished.

Now that you mention it. Some other possible character archetypes do come to mind.

Not sure where this was but I was not arrested for doing this in Portland. Went to a concert downtown and was too drunk to find my car. Decided to take a nap in the park. Cop came to check if I was ok and drove around to find my car. I told him that I was going to sleep it off and asked if it was ok to turn on the heater. He said it was fine. Fifteen minutes later, he came back with the license he had kept after running it. Probably thought I was going to drive home.

Put your keys well under the passenger seat.

And put yourself in the passenger seat to sleep it off. It’s more comfortable anyway.
