This might be your dumbest post ever. As other's said, they spent over an hour talking about Dame earlier in the show and it was great. If you ran a sports station it would be bankrupt in a month because you'd have zero listeners. I'm as pumped as anyone about Dame coming back. Not a chance in hell I want to listen to a 4 hour show only about that topic. They are the #1 sports show in Portland for a reason, and nobody else even comes close to them. The #'s dont lie. What they are doing works, the average sports fan seems to enjoy it and has for many many years.
There are a lot of options for sports talk on Sirius radio. I give them a short leash when they veer away from sports. Maybe 30 seconds max before I am switching the channel. I remember the old days when we did not have so many options. That was frustrating.
As I said, they were talking about politics. I don't go to my sports talk station to hear them talk about Joe Biden or drones. Maybe if you had reading comprehension skills that rivaled HCP, youd see I never said they should only be talking about Damian. But that on the day he returned they were talking about drones and Joe Biden. In a world where most listens of sports radio listen on short snippets, that's not the way to keep your listener interested. Want to know why they didn't spend the rest of the day talking about drones and Joe Biden? Because they're a fucking sports station.
And as I said and many others here as well, they ALWAYS talk about other topics besides sports. It's a guy focused talk show. 70% sports, 30% other stuff. And that's what works, that's what the average sports fan wants and has made them the #1 sports talk show for 15+ years. If that doesn't float your boat then go listen to something else. Problem solved.
#1 sports show in Portland is like being the hottest chic in the ugly class…..the smart kid in the dumb class. Quit sweating these guys BEERBOY…..local radio is atrocious.
What other sports are going on? What other big news was there? You cant talk dame for 4 hours. Dunno why you listen to issac and suke, who are known to not talk as much sports, and expect them to talk about sports when baseball is off until today, NFL didnt have watt signed yet, and even though sukes favorite sport is the NHL, nothing there. Like be reasonable. You know who they are. Be better. Dont play stupid.
What other sports are going on? WNBA All-Star game MLB Summer league Golf College football will be starting up soon NFL will be starting up soon There's tons they could talk about.
Even Chad? Why not? Chad did for two days straight. Took many callers opinions etc. soooo many angles to discuss about Dame now, only a lazy host couldn't fill up four hours of Dame.
Just listen to this. They had some ok takes at first but they just go off the rails. They don't even know how we acquired Jerami Grant. Lazy takes and this encapsulates why I dont listen to these guys.
I used to like him better but seems like he moved away from the Dan Patrick style more to Skip Bayless/Steven A Smith hot takes. Way back I used to listen to him when he was a local nobody in Portland.
When I watch Cowherd, I record it then fast forward to segments. When I listen to Marang or Sprague on 1080, I watch clips or fast forward to segments. Same thing with First Things First, NBA Today ... any of them. They all have their personalities and shortcomings and ... they all talk for hours, so there's something to not like. Marang is former military, so I cut him some slack from the get-go. Since his complaints or frustrations aren't something to do with me, they don't bother me much. He has worked to tone it down, though I may just miss some of his blow-ups. Sprague could talk a bit more, but that's not his role as much. His plain, white tee shirts are a good look for him. I can't listen to whiny voices for any length of time or nasally, flat voices. We all have our preferences. After Shams carrying water for the Warriors regarding the GP2 toradol b.s., he's someone I don't much care for. Haynes? Not a fan. Dwight Jaynes has gotten old, and I went to a seminar of his years about 20 years ago at a journalism conference -- was not impressed. But he's had a good, long career so I can respect the time he's put in at his craft.
Great news! Glad to hear that he's gone from The Fan. He sucks now. Just as SharpesTriumph said, he's all about hot takes now and bragging about when his predictions come true, but completely ignores the 90% of his takes/predictions that do not.
