But Olshey's ego and scouting reputation is invested in Leonard, so he won't be cut. The dignified exit strategy is to include him in a trade as filler.

Good choices in 2016. Either Ron Paul or Meyers Leonard will keep us out of war.

Maybe eventually. He has a ton of raw talent.

Can't sleep, watching it for the 2nd time.

Blazers are going to run a lot of high pick and roll with blake and kaman with thrill and CJ on the wings.

You see this summer league team run a lot of the same sets as last season.

I'm really excited about our second unit. Blake, CJ, Will, TRob, and Kaman. That's a pretty good bench.

It really is, and Mo williams would have disrupted it. I bet mo wanted us, we just didn't want mo.

Yup. Mo would have killed our offensive flow.

Or maybe because including him as filler in a trade is more beneficial than cutting him. How far under the cap would we be if we just cut him?

The Blazers are currently at about $69.1M. The salary cap is $63.2M. Leonard's contract this year is $2.3M. Cutting Leonard wouldn't put us under the cap. The Blazers would still be obligated to pay Leonard's salary, and it would not be removed from the cap calculations. All it would do is open up a roster spot. That roster spot could be left open, used to sign a vet minimum player, or used to re-sign Mo with the non-bird exception.

I don't really care if "he has no moves for his own scoring". We have other skilled position players who should do that. The fact he can score when someone passes the ball to him means he has offensive skills. He has a nice jump hook, a soft mid range shot, and has 3 point range. (To go along with good enough hands that enables him to catch tough passes for dunks without turning the ball over. ) Centers are often left wide open more than 10 feet from the basket. If he can bury a wide open 10-12 footer then he can be effective on the offensive end. His offense is not the issue. Its everything else. But if we are going to slam the guy, lets at least slam him for legitimate reasons.

Thank you. So basically cutting him would not be the smart move at this time.

In this game he reminded me of Gerald Wallace, the GOOD version.

As big of a Meyers basher as I am I kind of agree for the upcoming single season. But the big decision will be made prior to the Oct 31 deadline; does Neil give him that $3 million extension? Meyers has a few games right now to make his case; because from what I've seen there is no way Meyers deserves to be on our cap next summer for that amount of money.

But that does raise another question; if Meyers is to be a lame duck player who will be an unrestricted free agent is it even worth keeping him on the roster? Would a team like Philly be interested in using him for their tank fest, would they give up a 2nd round pick? Could Paul Allen pocket some of that cash for the future luxury tax fund and open up a minimum salary veteran spot?

Yeah his defensive energy was great. We've seen it for spurts before but it was on display for extended minutes. Really sucks he got hurt I was hoping for another game with our complete group.

I don't think we have any real backup PG option other than Blake.
I think McCollum and CJ are better used as a 2/3 with Blake playing the same role as Bobby Brown on the SL team.
Brown had the highest +\- on the team against Atlanta, something like +28, not because he's that great, but because he's the only real PG on the team.
Using McCollum and Barton as our guards with no PG just wouldn't work.

Thinking about it, this could be a big problem.
Having just 2 players at PG (Lillard and Blake) is just too risky.
I guess the thinking is we could use CJ but I don't think that it's a good plan.
We need to add a 3rd PG.
