<div class="quote_poster">shapecity Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">It's the LA culture bro, the Lakers are an insignificant part of everything the city has to offer and a lot of Laker fans are casual ones who hop on and off the bandwagon depending on the success of the team.

However, there's a hardcore fan base, I've been a fan for over 20 years and I always support them.

As for Kobe, I agree I don't like fans who place him on a pedestal, but when he plays at a high level last night, why point out what he did wrong and just enjoy it?

I really think you should watch Kobe live from the cheap seats just one time, get a bird's eye view of the court, so you can see how advanced his game is to everyone else on the court. He's one of the best at getting to his comfort zones on the floor, and outworks everyone on most nights.

Kobe is not a dirty player, he's competitive and he does cross the line at times, but Kobe is more a throwback player and his physical approach stands out now because of the pansy nature the league has become. Just listen to the older players who are now TV analysts, when people ask them how they would do against teams of today, they all say they'd kick their butts, because this era of players is soft.

When Kobe Bryant was worked out by the Lakers before they traded for his draft rights, he went one on one with James Worthy. Testing Kobe's resolve, Worthy hit him with an elbow in the chest. The next time Kobe got the ball in the post against Worthy, he gave Worthy an elbow right back. He gained Worthy's respect after the incident, because no rookie the Lakers had worked out before went that far.

Some will view at as dirty, but others view it as competitive. Basketball is a physical game, a man's game, and if you can break a player's will by knocking them around and intimidating them then you do it.</div>

    i respect your entire post.
but im one that sees it as dirty because of the fact that its not in the rules of the game. although you are right it is softer than it once was, but the truth is that no matter how soft or how stupid something is, ALL the players are required to follow those and it disgusts me to see all the players that try so hard to be the best but by following the rules and regulations and then to see players do something that is worthy of even being utterable as 'dirty' to try and accomplish more.

<div class="quote_poster">jealous? Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">i do know what im talking about. read the rest of the post after the part you bolded. i said its not that bad if your hitting. in a extreme shorter sense i was saying what you just wrote. but the somewhat bad is the fact that jacking is not a good thing 99% of the time. seriously, you cant think its always the right choice to do that when the rest of the team struggles,.. there are so many other options to try before jacking.
and players dont have to jack to get 50+..smart shooting actually works out better than jack-impulse shooting so the result would be better. but a turn around jumper from the baseline with two defenders on him is not a smart shotm but fortunately for him it was working.</div>

Then why can't you just praise Kobe for what he did, instead of saying it could be "bad?" Kobe was on fire last night and he couldn't miss. There was nothing much he could do at the corner since the clock was ticking down, and he was double teamed. The two defenders had him locked in a corner, so Kobe spinned, got one of the defenders off balanced, and hit a three, something he's been doing all night.

As for you saying how you hate people who jump off and on the bandwagon, I do too. Last season, thousands of so called "die-hard Clipper fans" came out of nowhere, saying how they've supported the team through all the hard ships and how they've always been a Clipper and blah blah blah. This season, most of those so called "fans" disappeared. For the record, if you read through the thread, everyone was praising Kobe for his performance. Nobody was saying how the Lakers were all of a sudden championship contenders, or that we were all of a sudden a top team in the league, so I don't really understand the need for that bandwagon comment. If Kobe scores 65 points in a win, what do you expect us fans to do?

    true.
but the bandwagon comments came from just reading the post of people turning thier backs and boycotting the lakers. thats enough to prove to me that they are not true fans and will say just the opposite on nights like last night. my frustration from people like that im sure made my comments seem worse than they were, but im serious its one of my worst pet-peeves(sp?) to see people like that along with thinking someone is flawless at the game of basketball or any sport.
but regardless i understand your post and will leave it with, awesome performance for kobe last night.[IMG]

but also i noticed the exact same about "clipper fans"...lol..

I want to reiterate it's really how you want to interpet it. Kobe has played 11 years in the NBA this way, and only now the league wants to crackdown on him. It's tough for a player to change his style after working at it his entire career.

Imagine doing your job a certain way your entire career, and then one day someone says that's not ok anymore. It's going to take you some time to adjust to it.
