How's this guy going to come back next season if they don't get what they want? Phil will pretty much have to be fired, right?
omg I'm in shock. Phil is acting like George Costanza out there, trying to get fired so he would still get his money. If KP trade doesnt work, this is Phil with the Knicks 1970 championship trophy:
I think Dame or CJ for KP is on Neil's mind. I know we all love Dame and CJ, but this is the kind of things a GM just has to do.
Which probably means their price is not very high. Oklahoma will obviously not give them Westbrook and their remaining assets are not better than what we could offer.
I'd do everything possible to get him here without sacrificing either. New York seem desperate. Package all picks we have, Harkless, Crabbe, whoever teams deem to have any value.
Three picks and a player or two? Not a chance because CJ is known quality. However New York seem stupid to even want to shop Porzingis, so who knows. I'd do CJ + #15 for Porzingis + #8. Honestly.
Who won more championships? Steve Nash or Dirk? Jason Kidd or Tim Duncan? I really like Dame and he is the better player right now, but the versatile 7'3 guy who is a better 2-way player is more likely to get you that championship. You also have to take age and contract into account: KP is on a rookie contract, younger, and his later years would probably be better as well. KP is probably a top 10 player in the league in terms of value. I don't have to be high in order to suggest that a GM is thinking about getting that player.
For a normal, non-idiot-led team, Porzingis would be untouchable. While he's not there yet, he has the potential to be Nowitzki on offense and DeAndre Jordan on defense (I'm not using Jordan as shorthand for "DPotY-caliber" because I don't think Jordan is that). That's an incredibly valuable quantity, much more valuable than either Lillard or McCollum. If I could get Porzingis for either guy, I'd do it, though I'd be sad to see Lillard go considering his commitment to Portland thus far.
KP drtg is 109. Why would you want him? Because his drtg and ortg are affected by those around him, because he plays on a horrible team. Furthermore, I couldn't disagree more on depth. We are the deepest team in the league at ET's position. Harkless, Aminu, Crabbe, ET all get minutes at the same spot. The Spurs had DG and Manu, a 40 year old.
Straight up you'd have to do it, good points on value. Might be tough to run a team without Dame though.
I don't actually think Porzingis is a very good defender today. As I said in my post, he has the potential to be a good rim protector and defensive rebounder (ala DeAndre Jordan) but he isn't there yet. Right now, he's only 20 and he makes a lot of mistakes on defense. I think they're correctable mistakes, but it reduces his impact on that end. And yes, to your larger point, I agree that team around one has some impact. I just didn't think it goes nearly far enough to explain the gulf between Turner and Green in the advanced stats. I also don't think the eye test supports Turner being as good a defender as Green but that, of course, is subjective.
Pretty much the way I feel. I do wonder if Porzingis would fit well next to Nurkic. Isn't he a taller and better version of Jokic? That didn't work so well in Denver. Can you play two big guys at the PF and Center spots in today's NBA and not get run out of the gym by the Warriors and other up-tempo teams?
