If the republicans ran an ad with some Muslim in a Home Depot van chasing little white kids through the streets yelling "allah akbar" and ended it with "is this the hope Obama promised?" you'd be up in arms and rightfully so because it's a) fear mongering, b) offensive, and c) in extremely poor taste.
Leadership must define what the end goal is. If winning the conflict, what constitutes winning? If ending the conflict is the goal, what must happen to end the conflict. Justice may not be involved at all. Elimination may be required at least partial elimination, as unjust as it may seem.
There is no correlation. Obama didn't try to ban Muslims from entering the country. Hate brings hate.

There is nothing certain in forgiveness or revenge that will guarantee and end to conflict. Conflict only ends when one side ceases hostility, enabling the other to also cease. Forgiveness may then be possible.
This is pretty much exactly what it's like in Indiana. I was out painting my front deck last year and one of my neighbors rolled down the street a few times in his beat up pickup with a confed flag on it, honking when he passed by. He then parked his truck two houses down, and got out, waved his flag a few times, and got back in and left. I had my headphones on and didn't pay him much attention. It's a straight scare tactic. Such bullshit because as an immigrant who grew up in OR, I think I understand what that flag means and represents better than the hicks who fly it here.
