I wonder if Chicago would consider Baze+Trent+2nd for Young+Dunn

The problem with not making trades is that even allowing Bazemore and Whiteside to walk this off season and assuming now that Hood would pick up his player option that leaves the Blazers with at most about $12 million in cap space in kind of a down free agent summer. So unless you think either of those two guys are a vital part of this team's future then you almost have to trade both of them this year IF we're looking at things from a wanting to contend point of view. If the view changes to being more financially responsible as a priority then I guess I could see that scenario where they just let those guys walk or re-sign them for cheap if possible. As far as building the best possible team around Dame I think they have to try and get some other long term solutions out of those two.

It will be interesting to see how Jody Allen reacts to the team falling short of expectations this year. Did she get a taste of winning last year and is willing to pay to get that again or does her mindset change to screw this I'm not paying for this crap? I know this doesn't really answer your question but it's tough to know after one season of her ownership when so many things went well how she'll react to shit hitting the fan.

This is strictly a guess but I doubt this organization is just gonna give up on the season so I think there will be trades to salvage things. I just hope those moves don't sacrifice future seasons just to make a playoff push this year.

Yikes, why would the Blazers do that?

Thad Young is a good player (having a down year but is that because he is bad or because he’s playing behind young guys? I’ll take the latter) versatile, we need frontcourt help immensely, his contract is decent too.

Dunn would at least give us another actual PG too.

I think the market for Centers is down enough the Blazers could maybe keep WS going forward and I would think a Nurk / WS combo would be one of the best tandems at C in the NBA.

Young is exclusively a PF though. Trading away two wings and losing Hood who is going to play SF? Melo or Young would be awful if they were forced to play SF at this point in their careers. I'd argue that Young's contract is pretty bad too. To me adding another PG does nothing if they aren't a play making point guard.

While you are totally correct about the center market being down, especially for a player like Whiteside, I just don't see any scenario where both of those guys are content with having to share center duties every game. Neither of them can play even spot minutes at the PF so you're basically going into the season saying neither will play more than 24 minutes a game.

Nurkic might be more ok with that after his leg snapped then before. I love Nurk, but I think its pretty important they find someone capable of starting if Nurk has injury problems going forward. Im not sure Whiteside would be willing to do that though.

I've said it before, but I've wanted us to get Whiteside since 2016. We finally got him. Finally, and now, so many people want to trade him off. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I think we're still in this. Why not? Collins/Anthony/Whiteside/Nurk, is a nasty lineup. IF, they come back healthy. Keeping Whiteside??? We'd probably have to luck into a Hood type deal. It is possible though. Happy, positive thoughts here!!!

Well the difference is that we had a starting SF spot open and Hood knew he would get plenty of minutes. If Nurk is healthy it's a little different situation for Whiteside. Kanter didn't take the Hood deal and ended up getting less from Boston. I would love for you to be right about Whiteside but I think he thinks of himself as a star, much like Kanter did so I'm not sure if he'd have the same mindset Hood did even if it is the best fit for him.

I really dont know what to make of Whiteside in terms of what he thinks about himself.

I really like the idea of Whiteside and a top 20 protected 2o2o first rounder, for Love. We could start Love as a small ball 5 until Nurk is all the way back and then have a starting lineup of Dame, CJ, Melo, Love and Nurk. I don't think that lineup would be too terrible defensively and it would be great offensively. The first rounder would be lottery protected if it fell to 2021 and would be unprotected if it somehow got to 2022.

It could revert to a 2022 2nd instead

I see 4 bad-average defenders and one elite one that comes back from a broken leg and probably will have minutes restriction and not play back to backs etc. Of course it will be a great offensive lineup but I think it will get destroyed during playoffs.

I don't think that Whiteside is so in love with Portland and it's players that he would accept a backup role. He will go somewhere that he can be a starter. Now, if there is no such place, then I guess he would consider Portland.

At this point, we have to make a major upgrade, or hold onto the pick. Love doesnt make this team better right now.

See I think Love does make us better right now as a small ball 5 who will space the floor and he really would be an upgrade at the 4 when Nurk gets back.

Cant win at a high level with a bottom 5 defense.
