The more the team wins the lower the odds of any major trade. Instead we’ll see something similar to the Hood trade. That would mean both Baze and Whiteside stay put and guys like Tolliver and Hezonja get packaged off.

    Denzel Valentine
    Markieff Morris
    Alec Burks
    Glenn Robinson

guys like that. Nothing sexy but should upgrade the bench.

And we'll piss away any chance of a big win now trade in the next 3 years in the process.

IF they don't trade Baze and Whiteside they both walk at the end of the year and we have no salary space to sign realistic replacements. They both need traded for the future. I would rather win for years then go all in this year and be screwed for the next several years.

We would have Bazemore and Whitesides bird rights so we could theoretically sign one or both in the off season as well. With their large contracts we would have to take back similar contracts in size in trades for them. Depending on what players may be available the best move could still be to not make a trade. Not many teams will have much if any cap space next year so a sign and trade is always a possibility as well in the off season.

I agree. The Blazers aren't going to wallow this deep into Luxury Tax territory indefinitely. I could see a trade involving one of them, but not both. The Blazers are going to want to let some air out of their Team Salary by letting one of them walk or, hopefully, re-sign here next summer at a much lower number. Bazemore for sure isn't going to see an $18M contract again. In today's market for big men, I doubt anybody pays Whiteside anywhere close to the money he's making this season either.

Where did you see that reported? I was under the impression that most teams will have a fair amount of cap space. Or at least there is more cap space projected than quality FA to spend it on (meaning several arginal players are going to get significantly overpaid).

17 teams are currently near, at or over next years projected salary cap and other teams have decisions to make on their own free agents to determine what if any cap space they may have. Guys like Whiteside and Bazemore aren't likely to draw big dollar offers and their time here could make them lean towards Portland for a lesser rate, It's just an opinion and only time will tell which direction teams will go and what the players are looking for.

Trade rumors connect the Trail Blazers to Kevin Love, but Portland should target a different stretch-4 instead. Here's who - and why

    • The Trail Blazers are looking to shake off a slow start to the season.

    • They’re a rumored landing spot for Kevin Love, who grew up near Portland.

    • Oklahoma City Thunder forward Danilo Gallinari would be a far better fit for the Blazers.

Gallinari is completely pointless with Melo around, as they can’t play together.

You know who I think could use Portland and vice versa? And I don’t know how they’d swing it financially or if he’s even on the block, I’m just talking pure basketball.

    Lonzo Ball.

Sounds like a match to me. Portland gives the Warriors some tax relief, without sending any money back, and an open roster spot. Portland gets a wing to help replace Hood/upgrade the bench.

I wouldn't be against that. I probably wouldn't give up more than a late 2nd though.

That sounds about right, especially if they’re not taking on money.

Since we mention him many times as a potential trade target Blake Griffin seems really done this season. Like something is really wrong with him.

I don't see why Dallas is giving up assets for an expiring contract. Their window is in the next few years.

Agreed. Hanging onto them has value.

Hey if we could flip them for a first round pick I'd certainly do it. They just dont have that much value. No trade is better than some overpaid player on the cap for a few years.

His body is broken, similar to Amare on the Knicks.
