I dont think their first this year unless its top 5 is that valuable, its not a great draft year IMO (I realize theres always some guys who jump up as the draft comes closer).

Id love it if they could have Nurk / Whiteside as a center combination, I just think its a very, very slim chance that happens and both are happy. I also dont think building the roster through 12m of capspace nets them players who are going to get them where they want to go. So my idea is use at least one of Baze or Whiteside (or both) to try get them
Some depth. I think the “small market” recipe for success comes in the form of one really good star, and a lot of depth around them. Its hard for small markets to get stars. Look at Milwaukee for instance Giannis is probably better than Dame at this point, but that team has so much depth that fits their system. A small market team with only one true All-Star+ level guys just has to have as many guys as they can who are worth giving minutes too.

Would New Orleans do Whiteside + a first for Ball and Favors?
Theres a lot of contracts out there that fit the bill when Im on a PC I’ll take a better look.

Does Portland have one or two open roster spots? I know they have 14 players on the roster but does the Hood DPE also count as an extra roster spot?

I think it counts as a roster spot if a player they get fits into the DPE, not a roster spot if they made a trade and no ones contract fits.

Would anyone trade Bazemore and Skal to OKC for Adams then trade Whiteside for the Bulls for Porter Jr?

The Blazers would be over $131 million next year only counting 5 guys, ha ha (Dame, CJ, Nurk, Adams, and OPJ). The luxury tax line is expected to be around $141 million so there would be no reasonable way to avoid a huge tax payment.

They'd be worse this year (mainly because Porter is out awhile longer) so they'd probably get a lottery pick if that's what you're going for.

Is Kent Bazemore worth 19 mil?? I would start there.

His contract is irrelevant at this stage as he is simply an expiring contract and in any trade we would have to bring back similar salary.

I think the Bulls would expect more than just an expiring contract for Porter and you say Bazemore isn't worth 19 mil. Is Porter really worth $56 mil for 2 years? I think there could be better values to be had out there.

What would we have to add to get Adams and Schroder from OKC for Whiteside and Baze?

    Funny stuff!

“Alright, we’ll give you a choice. You can either have Mario Hezonja or... this horse.”

    “We’ll take the horse.”

what horse can we trade Hezonja for?

Man an Iggy and Brooks package would be so perfect and worth a protected first.

I wonder what Olshey is waiting for. Maybe he wants to see the team play with Nurk? Although idk how getting him back solves our issues on the wing. Seems like he should have a bigger sense of urgency. At least get Burks. I doubt the warriors would hesitate to trade him if they had an opportunity to dump him without taking money back.

Burks can be had for 2nd rounder probably.

I don't think Memphis would give up Iggy and Brooks for a protected first. They are supposed to ask for a first (even a protected) just for Iggy and Brooks has been solid this season.

If I had to guess I'd imagine Olshey is waiting for a trade like this in which we get 2 players for less (or about the same) than the amount going out of 1 player (assuming Bazemore in your scenario). That way he could add depth and fill a roster spot without adding tax to a below .500 team. If they did a trade like this that got them about the minimum less in return then they could go get someone with the 2nd roster spot essentially adding 3 players for 1 without changing the tax situation.

I don't like giving up a 1st in your trade simply because both Iggy and Brooks (restricted) are free agents and I don't like the idea of giving up a 1st for two players that might not be on the team next year when they'd be over the cap without good trade contracts and limited options to make the team a contender. I've defended the Afflalo trade but the results of this one could end up similar.

Melton is really a great trade target. Will help a lot our backcourt and currently he is miles ahead of Simons.
