Yes, which is why Ariza for Olynyk might still be on the table for the Blazers if they got a wing elsewhere.

I like how we keep moving the goal post of what Neil Olshey “better do”... how many chances does that guy get?!

Actually now that I look at it, it was probably just between Waiters or Johnson. Both have contracts that extend beyond the season and are not contributing. Olynyk has a deal that extends beyond this season but he's in the rotation. Meyers same, and Meyers is expiring. Maybe they would rather have Olynyk's deal come off this season but he's not playing bad and they don't have many other bigs so I doubt that.

    Meyers is, Whiteside bought one.

Olynyk is playing less than 20 minutes a game. I don't think he's part of their current long term plans. He's also got a player option for next year.

You really think they were offered Olynyk? I would think the Kings would take him & run with that trade.

I can at least make a case that if the Kings were offered any of the others (Leonard, Johnson, Waiters) that they went with Baze + picks.

Or maybe some NBA players buy homes in every city that they play in.
It may not be smart - but that's not a prerequisite to play in the NBA.

They already have Dedmon unhappy and wanting out and are unsure about keeping Bogdanovic so bringing on someone who might accept his option next year maybe wasn't appealing.

Plus Miami has very little in terms of picks they can trade.

He even was out of the rotation a week ago.

Yeah, he was a DNP coaches decision when we played them last. Hardly untouchable.

Do any of you want to take a shot on Wiggins?

That contract is nuts, but I think i'd like him more than someone like Blake or Love, and we could ask Minny to throw in some assets to take him on like Culver or their pick with protections, etc.

And why should they do that? They aren't in the luxury tax. They aren't a FA destination. Wiggins is a bad contract, but it's not like an unplayable contract. He's still a starter level player, he just shouldn't be getting $30M a year.

If they had moves to reshape the team after the deal, sure, but dumping assets just to get rid of a perceived bad contract never makes sense to me.

Sato is noticably better than Young and makes less. Sato would be a phenominal pickup.

if that happens (Whiteside not traded), Blazers would have the full-MLE and that 7M TPE. Also, if they were confident about staying under the apron, they could also use the 3.7M BAE (they'd be hard-capped anyway if they use their full-MLE)

one question on the horizon is if the Blazers want to bring Melo back, and if so, for how much. He might eat up a big chunk if that MLE. He also might not want to come back if other teams are interested.

    To Kings: Whiteside

To Portland: Covington, Dedmond, 2020 2nd via Sac

To Minnesota: Bogdanovic, Skal, 2020 first via Portland

Gets Portland less than a million from dipping the tax. Shouldn’t be too hard to dump Hezonja or Biggie. Could even attach Hezonja to the trade and send him to the Kings.

    Dame
    CJ
    Ariza
    Covington
    Nurkic

    Melo off the bench.

Not bad! I doubt we'd get a 2nd and Covington in that deal so Sacramento would probably keep it or it would go to Minnesota but I like it overall. I wonder how Minnesota would feel about both players they are getting being restricted free agents. They'd be sooooo bad defensively too.

Idk but Olshey needs to hurry up before the trade machine tab leaps the porn one.
