I don’t know, but that would be a good question in one of the other threads where trading the pick is more discussed than the players available at 2-8. “2023 NBA Draft” should be titled “Trading our 2-8 pick to get a significant upgrade.”
I think who we will get for those picks is appropriate for a thread with the tile, "...Players Dame doesn't want."
My era's titles......."Clearest description in the most concise manner". This was everything except the "Enquirer". Todays titles, driven by a lathering culture demanding drama, fiction, and emotion.... "THIS JUST HAPPENED!" "Shocking truth revealed" "Something interesting, but not actually true to make you click" "Completely non-factual, but it backs your theory, so you click on it" "Anything repeated constantly on social media, thereby becoming real". Not trying to dog on the op, but where is the Dame quotes?
Agreed. Much like the projecting who they would take if they kept their pick, it probably makes the most sense to wait until after the lottery. Hopefully we get the #1 pick.
When Lillard refers to Shaedon being plenty of 19 year old the Blazers need, it doesn't necessarily mean he wants this year's 1st round pick traded for a vet. I think Damian was nicely referring to all the other young Blazers stuffed into Portland's roster simply because they have "potential".
We will probably regret trading the pick 4 years from now....... but the bottom line is it has value. A lot of talent out there.
I agree, but the regret will likely end up comparing who the Blazers got in the trade vs the best player they could've selected. The reality is, we'll never know who Portland would've selected. For example, had we traded the 2017 lottery pick for a solid starter, people would regret it because they could've kept it and had Bam or Mitchell. However, that solid starter would've been a much better get than Zach Collins. I'm not sure how many drafts the Blazers have optimized their selection, but I'm guessing it's not very often. And that's not because they're bad at evaluating talent, that statement would be true for nearly every franchise.
So what your response have to do with the question I asked of the poster that I quoted? Just that bored? Not trolling....seriously asking.
Looking at Whitmore, one of the things that stands out to me is how powerful he can be getting by defensive players without throwing his elbows out. It seems more and more in the NBA that players are getting offensive fouls for elbow motions that are part of a natural shooting motion, when defensive players crowd the driver/shooter. Whitmore doesn’t need to throw his elbows out because of his size and strength, at least against players around his size. See at the 2:10 mark where Cam drives from the 3-point line, goes up and dislodges the defender draped over him with his body first, gets the bucket and is fouled. At 2:40 on a fast break, Whitmore dribbles through the contact of a defender (which should have been a foul, the dude is leaning into him to no avail) and even though the defender is attached to him is able to lay in the ball without throwing out his arms. Defender actually leaning into Whitmore to try to stop him from scoring, to no avail. Whitmore keeps his right arm straight ahead while the defender pushes his face into it, then powers through and scores. Definitely a foul on #1 and #15 could have been called for putting his hand in the cookie jar even if there was no contact.
Man I hope we get the No. 1 pick and draft Wemby. I mean, he’ll probably be great and all, but mainly to avoid a decade’s worth of recriminations about who the Blazers should have drafted/traded for.
Maybe, or maybe not. Oden was the consensus #1 pick but we still hear some stories and some fans say how the Blazers made a mistake and should've drafted Durant. Although now that Durant has bailed on 3 teams including where he won titles it seems that talk has lessened.
I’m not hearing anyone talk about drafting Scoot over Wemby. I hear more talk about Miller over Scoot. There was a decent amount of talk of people wanting Durant over Oden.
I kinda understand what you're thinking from afar. Not sure how we would match salary to get Gobert without giving Minnesota way too much talent.
I recall a poll the said 29 out of the 30 GMs said they would've picked. I believe the one who wouldn't have was the Magic and that is because they had a 21 year old all-star, Dwight Howard. Had Oden been some dominate HOF center and Durant turned into Jonathan Bender, I'm fairly confident the 2023 narrative would have been "Oden was the clear #1 pick."
