Which ones do you know he ignores? Being bad at something and ignoring a stat are two different things.
43 of the 56 nba mvp trophies went to guys I would consider excellent defenders. Defense is definitely not as important to the media that get MVP votes now as it used to be because I only think 11 of the last 20 mvp trophies have been awarded to guys that I consider excellent defenders.
only 4 guards out of the group of D Player of the Year? Not many of late. maybe Leonard could be considered a guard. NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award Winners | NBA.com https://www.nba.com › history › awards › defensive-pla...
wut?...my "assessment" is that a stat that is basically a 20 minute sample is a useless predictive stat when an NBA season is over 3900 minutes long I mean, for chrissakes, are you honestly suggesting that trio will have an 80.8 defensive rating at the end of the season?
Since this thread is about Powell I'm assuming you are assuming that Powell is being played as a guard but he's actually being played as a small forward.
Useless? I think it's a little too early to say that. So far he's looking good. Thin statistical data? Yes, I've got to agree but useless? No, just enough to begin a smile on my face.
I personally do not think that groups defensive rating will be that low. Will it be better than the team average throughout the season, which was the implication in the original statement? I believe that has yet to be seen, but it is possible I do not think anyone said that their rating after 20 minutes will be the rating throughout the remainder of the season.
