One addresses a gaping need in the front court. One is an undersized scoring guard. Seems like we didn't address the former....and already have plenty of the later.
Portland could sign 2 veterans with the space created due to pro-rated contracts. So, this positions them for the buyout market
Powell is 6'4"" - isn't that bigger than Dame or CJ and same size roughly as Trent? guy is a better overall and consistent scorer/shooter as well
6'4" 215 with a 6'11" wing is not an undersized SG. The dude plays bigger than he is. I have always loved his game since college. He attacks the basket
Doesn't fill a need, but it upgrades a spot on the team(2 if little gets more run over hood), so overall, not bad. Adding Porter on buyout market would have me thinking it was a good deadline.
agree, Trent was likely gong to get paid and Por made its decision he wasn't coming back at the salary he is likely to get
Mikey likes it. Don't know much about Powell but just looking at the stats he looks better than Trent. Better rebounder. Get's fouled twice as often. Higher TS%. Turns it over a lot -- but hey we don't pass so that should go down! Better defensive BPM for that that's worth. And we got rid of Hood.
So.... let me get this straight.... Blazers draft Gary Trent and a few years later deal him to Toronto as part of a package for an undersized guard who will be a FA at year-end..... 23 years later.... we do the same again? You can’t tell me history doesn’t repeat itself...
I said if we let Trent walk that I'd be pissed but if we just let Powell walk it will kind of be the same thing. This is better than nothing though and should free up PT for Nas.
