The first person on the team that failed Norm was Olshey because Olshey put him on the team with Dame and CJ in Stotts' system. So yeah, I would love it if we totally overhauled our team starting with the GM, then the coach and definitely move CJ in the process. If we do all of that before free agency then I would love it if we could convince Powell to come back to be Dame's off guard in the starting back court.
When we talk about why players dont come to Portland, i think we should talk more about because one reason they dont get the ball very often
I'm sorry but this just made me snort with laughter. You should write romance novels. Maybe it's our shit GM? Or maybe it's that Powell's limitations are showing up more here? Or maybe it's that he wasn't actually that excellent? His defensive numbers were mediocre already, and he can't dribble or pass for shit, so...? I still think he's a step up from Gary, although not from the Gary of the Bubble. I also think he's better than he's shown recently, but I think it would be a lot worse to overpay him and keep him than just to let him go. And those people who say he's better than CJ just hate CJ unreasonably. There's a reason Toronto traded him so they wouldn't have to overpay him themselves.
Another disappointing thing about him is his anemic rebounding. Yes he's a guard playing at SF, but so what? Rebounding is effort - as Doncic and Westbrook could tell you.
LOL.... oh Rasta..... maybe just maybe it's because we have a dude who's.... what... .6'4? playing small forward?
So what is a reasonable price to pay Norm? $19M-$20M/yr ? I don't think I've seen anyone who says he's significantly better than CJ, and therefore we ought to trade CJ.... Most of us acknowledge that CJ is a slightly better player - however that difference is not significant. They are both close to the same tier of player. When you compare their career PER/100 numbers - CJ takes a LOT more shots overall - CJ is a slightly better 3pnt shooter - Norm is more efficient & gets to the line more frequently - Norm is a better rebounded (slightly) - CJ gets more assists - CJ is better at avoiding turnovers (slightly) The big thing for me is Norm is a much better defender. We'd go from abysmal (CJ) to slightly above average (Norm). My take is that Norm at $20M/yr is much better fit and long-term plan than continuing with CJ at $31M/yr.
Saw an article today that said Thibs is very interested in getting Powell in the off-season. If I’m Powell, unless there are significant changes in Portland, coach at minimum, I’m gone.
??? You don't read many threads on here, then. I really wish I could see evidence of this great D that Powell is supposed to supply. Granted: Powell gets to the line a lot more, and that's valuable. But his handle is bad for a guard and in general his court awareness seems poor. He's like a SF in a PG's body, only with pretty crappy rebounding.
They traded him, so they wouldn't have to overpay him, in order to overpay a guy you said was worse than he is. That really doesn't make much sense.
