I'm not sure if Pat will be a Blazer when training camp comes around. Pat has an inexpensive nonguaranteed contract (about $1.5 mil), but it becomes guaranteed in a couple of weeks. He's our 15th player. We could sign a player with the taxpayer MLE which is about $5mil. However, in the luxury tax world the practical difference between the 2 choices is much more than $3.5 mil.

Why would we get rid of the 2017 Las Vegas summer league MVP?

Pat Connaughton is gonna make Lonzo Ball look like Markelle Fultz. And I mean that.

Broken record for me at this point, but having cheap guys in the 8-12 spot in the rotation gives you flexibility when someone offers your 8-12 spot RFA max $. And we've gone a little while since getting good value from our draft picks in their class. while I like that RHJ got us plumlee who got us nurkic, not having a 1st rounder from 14, 15, or 16 hurts our flexibility. And signing 2nds instead of 1sts makes you make that decision 1 yr (or even 2) earlier than a 1sr rounder.

I like him, I like his presence and personality, his leadership. He doesn't have any amazing talent but he seems to be a hard worker and also someone who has gotten better throughout the season which is sometimes more important than being naturally gifted.
I hope he stays, maybe evenbe able to earn some playing time at some point in the season. And if I had to predict his future, I think he's only going to get better

I don't know if it will be this year or the next one or the one after it, but Pat's basketball future is in Europe. There he can be a useful player of 12-13 ppg.

I like PC....he's got a great motor in a Delladova way....pesky defender...hard worker...we could do much worse with the 15th spot on the roster...like Quarterman or Montero for example....we've invested a couple seasons in him...might as well give him a shot.

I'd legitimately rather have Pat Connaughton at the end of the bench than the likes of Jeff Green, even for the same money. He has a chance to do something useful off the bench (shoot) and he might improve a bit.

I didn't bring this up, but obviously PC is a great cheerleader, and yes, that matters.

PC showed in the regular season he could + impact the game.
He's still on the bubble imo.

Well I for one hope Pat pushes AC for a rotation spot...for defense if nothing else.

I'm hoping that ACs defense improves... a lot - and I think it's possible.

I think the odds are that one of our role players makes the leap this season...Layman, PC, Crabbe and Mo could all step it up a notch....

He will die in a hail of bullets outside a motel in Reno when a smuggled pangolin deal goes south.

I hope you're right! But, I'm not sure it's necessary. If Mo just goes from 35% to 37% from 3 (38% would be amazing!), and Crabbe goes from poor defender to average defender, and shoots 2.5 3s/game, we'll have really improved (assuming we're healthy). Maybe some think of this as taking a "step", I guess I just don't. We need now what we needed last year - incremental improvement from everyone.

Unless catastrophe hits, Pat and Layman won't see regular minutes.

I think Pat surprised all of us last season with some really good games where we were thinking "why is he in the game?" Stotts seems to like him. Pat seems to be all in whether he's on the bench or on the court. I have to respect his commitment.

Also he was my pick for that draft so i could use another good hit instead of the usual draft bust.

Just something about the name Patty seems to make guys great bench cheerleaders and towel wavers. We've had two now and never should have let the first one go. Let's hope we don't repeat that error.
