Pat should do what's in his best interest. That is probably maximizing his basketball earnings while he can. After, he can decide whether he wants to take a shot at baseball. I don't think he has a long future in NBA basketball though. Seems to me this is most likely his last year, at least on the Blazers.

I just think he's mediocre at everything. I'm not really a fan of either Pat or Layman.

What happened to the lights out white guy shooters?

once again I just cannot fathom why Olshey exercised Pat's option for this year, frankly another mind blowing event added to the Meyers/Crabbe/Turner signings/overpays. The guy either gets it very right (CJ-Nurk) and perhaps Collins and Caleb, or very wrong.

Out of pro sports in 5 years with elbow or shoulder issues. He will use his degree to work for the Blazers, Orioles or Notre Dame in some capacity.

His contract would've almost certainly been needed in that Melo trade. Maybe they decided they'd be ok eating his contract as a plan B if the trade didn't go through. At least I hope.

Nope. You are not the only Pat Con Backer. I have seen the advanced metrics on Pat. He does some really good things but just is not hitting shots. He moves very well without the ball and is almost always in the right place. He gives commands on the court and keeps other players in the right places also. The problem is he just has not put it all together yet. Patty Mills was much the same way. There is also another issue with the players he has been playing with also not hitting shots so his assist ratio suffers.
Like i said above. Pat may or may not work here in Portland but i believe he will get a decent career in the NBA going.

The hell he does. And also missed numerous assignments last night (when he wasn't getting blown past.)

IMHO, Pat is not aggressive enough. He only looks at the hoop at the last resort.

Yeah, and can't break anyone off the dribble to save his life, which would be fine if he could find other ways to get clean looks, but he can't do that either. He's pretty much a 6'5 Meyers Leonard lmao. I'm sure he's a great teammate and a smart guy, but you need talent as well. I just don't see it and I swear if Stotts puts him at point guard one more time...

Okay. You see what you want to see but lets look at some numbers.
    Pat played 19 mins
He missed his shots 1-7. Not good at all but 6 of the 7 were open looks. 3 of which were 3's that he missed. No question he needs to make some shots.
He ended up with 4 points 2 rebs and 3 asts. The three assists is the bad stat be cause he put the ball in an open shooters hands 9 other times. 6 of those were Layman misses and a few in crunch time. If those fall the game is won and his advanced metrics go through the roof. Including +/- stat which did not bode well.
There is no question he needs improvement but here is another number many don't follow. Pat has only played 459 mins at this point of his career. Lillard had that by Jan of his first year. A player needs about 1000 minutes before he starts to really feel the game on the court. Pat needs minutes IMHO.

Don't need any advanced stats to confirm that he doesn't belong. I didn't really even care about all the missed shots. I'm fairly certain he's a better shooter than he showed last night. The problem is everything else looked like the Pat I've seen for two years. Extremely limited. Overmatched physically (please don't throw his combine numbers at me, it doesn't translate on the court.) But hey, if you disagree, cool, I hope you're right.

My only real point there was that i think he needs minutes and from what i see he journeyman type player. We ran a couple players out of here that had decent careers. Steve Blake comes to mind as well as Patty Cakes.

Like others have said, most likely in the event his salary could be used in a trade (i.e. Melo). A strategic move that may not pan out.

Seems like a good time to bump this. Pat’s doing pretty well I’d say.
