I'm not sure that I can recall more than one time in the last four years each for Hinrich and Deng where they took the "big shot." As I recall, Deng hit one against Memphis for a tie where Memphis came back and hit one for a win, and Hinrich dished to Ben Wallace for a foul in the other. Everything else was BG. So to say those guys can't get it done is either based on nothing, or premature. Plus, Rose is the one who is going to have the ball in his hands.

This team still doesn't need BG, and guys like Rose are better off without him.

How is Rose doing without him vs. with him? It's easy enough to look at the stats.

Just watch Deng play basketball and you can tell the guy can barely dribble and certainly isn't good at creating his own shot. Do you want the ball in his hands with 10 seconds left in a game? Of course not. The reason he does not get the shot to do that is that his game does not lend itself to doing that.

Hinrich shot 14% last year when the shot was clutch.

    bad.

Rose might get there. But does not have the range to his shot at this point, so he's pretty much going to be trying to create a mid range J or more than likely taking it to the hole and trying to score / draw a foul. He's not there yet though.

Salmons is awful (in general) to this point.

Clutch scores are up for this year so far
    Deng (eFG .125)
    Hinrich (eFG .200)
    Salmons (eFG .500)
    Rose (eFG .538)

That is, in clutch time, Deng and Hinrich are performing under their usual performance. Salmons and Rose are shooting better than average in those situations compared with how they've been to date.

Generally speaking, this makes sense. Salmons and Rose are both guys that can create their own shot. Deng and Kirk, not so much.

Hinrich has sometimes been capable of having a huge quarter and carrying the team. It's been a while, though, maybe a couple of seasons even. I never would be comfortable with him as THE guy you had to rely on for as many of the 82 games as possible. I agree that Deng has so-so handles and ability to create his shot, but once he gets in sync with the offensive flow, he can put up a bunch of points in few minutes.

82 games is a long season, and things will tend to even out over the long haul. If Deng ultimately is a .250 clutch score guy, he'll have to (and likely will) play .375 for about 10 games and end up at that .250.

Guys who are playing over their head will also fall to earth, as we saw regularly with Duhon; Duhon would have a massive 1st month or two and then royally suck the rest of the season (offensively).
