Yeah Kobe can break Double-Teams easily, but to me its not the fact that he can, its the fact that is he is doing that all game they cant win.

That's not what I'm trying to say.

You say that Kobe needs to keep getting assists...but you have to realize, he's not going to get assists if the entire team is shooting poorly.

He already had 8 in the game...and that's alot for Kobe, and that's alot for any guard in a game, especially a shooting guard. Most of Kobe's assists came from open shots in which he penetrated and created...otherwise, most of the Lakers can't shoot at all with a hand in their face.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting realdealbneal:</div><div class="quote_post"> First off, Slava shouldn't be in the game after allowing Webber to hit shot after shot...after shot.

Secondly, Luke Walton should be playing in games like this...especially in the final seconds. Why? If I were Rudy T, my first option for a late three-pointer would be Kobe...and my second option? Luke. </div>

I totally agree. Rudy hasn't really shown me great coaching. Why would you put Slava with Webber, i understant that Odom was in foul trouble but you have Luke.

Great game overall but the lost hurts because is the kings

Yea, great game by Kobe though. 76% SHOOTING!! 3-4 form 3 point land. 8 Assists and I think 7 rebounds... Too bad nobody else really stepped it up except Jumaine Jones was very solid.

Getting people involved isnt always about getting assist, this is what im saying. Instead of Kobe trying to break double teams, and getting hard baskets, he should pass the ball so the ball can keep going around so they get an easy shot. In the game is looked like Kobe was doing everything, which isnt totally his fault, but is somewhat, because he has the ball in his hands too much. Like Oscar Robertson told Steve Francis about Yao Ming, Steve said "But what if Yao isnt shooting well this game, why should I pass him the ball", Oscar said "Keep passing the big man the ball, even if he isnt shooting well, because after a while he will get into it and so will the rest of the team". Its about how u play in the game, and how they look involved on the court, forget about 8 assist and 09483904 rebounds, you can play GREAT without a good boxscore.(Let me also add I really really like Kobe also)

Exactly...and I know you watched the game, right? How many passes did Kobe throw? He passed the ball out TONS of times, he slowed the offense to get back the guys slowly coming downcourt, and he was even helping out both offensively and defensively. He was getting everyone involved, throwing passes to Jones in the corner, Cook up top, Mihm down low...even taking it back out when he should've taken the dunk on a penetration.

He was talking to his teammates, talking with Rudy T...he couldn't do anything tonight to make me call him selfish.

And also...welcome to JBB. Nice to have you here.

Thanks.Yes, but before that hes dribbling the shot clock down, and than passing the ball, or taking it too the basket, sometimes in double teams. Therefore forcing whoever gets the ball to do something with few seconds left. I think to solve the whole problems with everything, is just to swing the ball around early, and try to find a shot, and if nothing can be done, than thats when kobe breaks double teams, and such, because Kobe can do that, but his teamates cant.

Well, just got back from the game and just wanted to share my opinion. First of all, it was a great game, exactly what an NBA game should be. It was fun to watch and kept you on the edge of your seat the whole night. Kobe started off sharing the ball real well and ither guys got involved most notably mihm and tierre brown. Kobe put on a show as usual with his sick reverse dunk and then he brushed the dirt off his shoulders. As the game progressed though, I noticed Kobe was just dribbling around everywhere too much not even knowing where his teammates were at times and when he did pass to someone he would get stuck in the air while passing which he usually pulled off but he can't always. When it got to the crunch time and we got the flagrant foul i thought it was all but done...but u gotta give credit to bibby and christie for hitting those huge shots. great game, came close, but no cigar...lets get it back on track vs NO.

Kobe made steals, made blocks, had a incredible fg percentage, got to the line, had assists, etc.... I dont think he was selfish at all. He was helping the team. Just cause he goes and scores 40+ doesn't make him selfish.

I dunno why, but this loss hurt more than any loss we've had this season. Perhaps it's because it was against the Kings...or perhaps because we were in the drivers seat at the end of the game, and then lost it ... or perhaps because this was a very entertaining game that we finished on the wrong end of. I dunno man, but this game really hurts [IMG]

I wish we could have one the game because there is no other team then the Queens that I dislike the most, next to the Pistons. I think your hurt because it was a good game and we lost at the end. But don't worry there are three more games left. Cheer-Up!!

its funny becuas i feel the same, i didnt see the game but when reading the posts i have a feeling how the game went, laker kings games are always entertaining, if lakers loose the lakers take it hard, if the kings loose the kings take it hard, but we got to keep our heads up and learn from our mistakes and remember there are about 70 games left and three (I think) of them are with the kings, we will win games, the good thing is that we are we are still in 8th spot and above .500, so we are still alive, we will make it to the playoffs this year if kobe stays healthy.

I watched this game closely (especially after Adleman's comments). I've always thought that Vlade was underrated as a center, although he can't get up, he brings a lot to your team. Mainly the ability to pass out of a double team. Rather than trying to dunk, getting fouled and missing, and then not completing his free throws anyway like some people [IMG].

Amazing game. Sorry I couldn't post last night, had my girlfriend over to watch the game with me.. passed out on the couch. ;X

Kobe did great. Great shooting, missed a few free-throws, but nothing bad. What really irked me is that NOONE could make a damn shot but Kobe. I mean, wow. Jumaine Jones... a few lucky three pointers wobbled in after trying over and over and over again cuz Kobe kept passing to him. Say the guys woulda made 50% of their shots, at the least, trust me - Kobe would have a lot more than 8 assist.

Kobe is really starting to do an amazing job leading this team. I don't see him getting mad at anybody, bitching other players out, etc. I saw him talking to Cook about where he was supposed to be for the buzzer-beating pass, or something like that. And after the UGLY inbound pass to Lamar Odom, which I have NO IDEA how the .. ahem, he was supposed to catch, which he did, and jacked up the long shot. After this, Kobe looked dissapointed. He just sighed and walked off the court, something most people do when they lose a game. Kobe is looking more and more like Jordan with his leadership, scary.
(I WAS REALLY DISSAPOINTED AT HOW THIS GAME ENDED. WTF KINDA ENBOUND PASS WAS THAT??? CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT DIDNT WE STILL HAVE ENOTHER TWENTY SECOND TIMEOUT??? -.-;;;;;;;;; )

Yes, Kobe had his chance to win the game. He's human being too, and when you're Kobe Bryant, you're going to have two or more people on you CONSTANTLY. And I don't mean, just following you, but in your face the whole time - with or without the ball. You guys see Doug Christie man? He was hugging Kobe the whole game. This one play, he was following (leaning onto Kobe) so badly that when Kobe turned for the inbounds pass Doug Christie when sprawling onto the floor and landed on his hips. [IMG] I don't even know how Kobe makes his shots. Another thing I noticed, is that he kept dribbling past double-teams which was sweet, and he was doing good at first. After a few tries then the ball got stolen. [IMG] I knew that would happen. Anyhow, I don't care - cuz Kobe was sharing the ball, too much. I think the rest of the Lakers should just learn how to shoot, and rebound. That way Kobe can draw triple-teams, and kick the ball out to wide open jumpers and we'll never have a problem scoring.

Cook did "okay". Better than usual. I'm still wondering where Rush is, I miss his three-pointers. Vlade Divac looks like he hasn't played in years, heh, but i'm glad to have him back.

Kobe's spin-around, followed by the left-handed lay-up... that was sweet. And of course his reverse dunk. He did a great job getting in the lane and getting the fouls.

With better defense we coulda easily won that game.

We'll do better next time. Good game Lakers.

if you are referring to the last shot of the game, 2 things, no they didnt have another timeout, they had just used their last 20 prior to inbounding that pass
and secondly, there were 2.(something) seconds on the clock. had they had another timeout, they would have used it prior to inbounding instead of after.

    that made no sense.
why would anyone else on the team need to know how to shoot if Bryant was sharing the ball too much? If you want Bryant to take every shot, then all the rest of the team needs to know how to do is pass & set picks. If you want him to draw a triple team then dish it outside, then they need to be able to shoot.

    2.1 seconds I think.

If Bryant is sharing the ball too much, then its good for the players that he shares the ball with to be able to shoot. I never said Bryant should take every shot, I said "kick it out" as in pass it. If you pass it, then how are you supposed to shoot it?

You lost me. "why would anyone else on the team need to know how to shoot if Bryant was sharing the ball too much?" Uh... because if Bryants sharing the ball too much, then obviously that means he's passing when he should be, and therefore, the other Lakers should be able to shoot their wide-ass jumpers they are constantly getting from Kobe.

Two teams, too soft... Very soft games by both teams. Neither team did a good job of containing the other, and both teams seemingly tried to give away the game down the stretch. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were on the losing end. The Kings have played together for quite some time now, the Lakers are still trying to integrate their new pieces. The Lakers will make strides as the season progresses. The Kings look like a team that is coming down the mountain and met us while were on the climb up.
The Lakers suffered some major foul trouble to Butler, Odom and Mihm. Butler played just 23 minutes and Mihm 21 minutes. Kobe played a spirited game, but he needed more help from teammates. The Lakers allowed the Kings to get in the bonus early in the third and watched them outscore them and take a lead. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers returned the favor to the Kings, getting to the line for some easy points. They had a chance to go up by 4 points and take the game on the flagrant foul, but Cook made just one FT and then the Lakers turned the ball over, giving up FTs.

Kobe -- -- There were stretches when Kobe was working way too hard. It was a very good game by Kobe, but the team can't expect him to shoulder that much of a load. Kobe scored 40 points on just 11-17 shooting. He went 15-19 from the FT line. In addition, he had 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 turnovers and 2 blocks. He teamed up with Cook for a key turnover on a game changing play late in the fourth quarter, when he tried to swing a pass over the double team to Cook and Peja stepped in the passing lane and beat Cook to the ball. Offensively, Kobe was able to get set up by others at least for his three-point shots in this game. He was 3-3 from downtown until he missed a rushed three on one of the last plays of the game. Kobe gave up the body on a dive at midcourt to secure a loose ball, then passed down court for a transition score. Great play. Kobe had a facial dunk, freezing Christie with a hesitation, then attacking the baseline and throwing down an And-1 reverse dunk. He brushed his shoulders off and walked to the line. Kobe sank a sensational leaning/flying one-handed high bank shot from a attack off the baseline. He picked the Kings apart, but it wasn't enough.

Mihm -- :P -- Solid game when he was on the floor. Unfortunately, he picked up some cheap fouls (he needs to watch the over-the-back calls) and was limited to just 21 minutes. In that time, he scored 15 points on 5-10 shooting and 5-6 from the line. He pulled down 7 boards (3 offensive). He had a great block on Christie, who lost Kobe on the dribble and was going in for an easy dunk. Mihm scored the Lakers first two baskets, one on a wing jumper and the other on a putback of an Odom missed layup. He scored another hoop on a pick and roll with Chucky, in which Chris jumpstepped between a couple defenders and scored with his left, very athletic looking play for the bigman. The Lakers ran one of their slice variations and Kobe hit Mihm with a pass under the hoop for a dunk when the D doubled Kobe. Mihm hit a turnaround jumper in the lane. Mihm actually hurt his FG percentage with the 5-10 performance. Prior to the game, Mihm ranked 4th in the NBA in FG percentage (0.56). He was also 8th in blocks (20), 15th in blocks per game (1.82), and 16th in blocks per 48 minutes (3.07).

Odom -- [IMG] -- Lamar had a double double, but it was a fairly unimpressive game from him. He did little to take advantage of CWebb's poor mobility after the first quarter. Lamar finished with 11 points on 5-15 shooting, missing a lot of easy layups under the hoop. He pulled down 14 rebounds, 4 offensive. He had just 2 assists in 34 minutes. Frankly, I thought Rudy should have put the ball in Lamar's hands much more, especially at the top of the key. He could have created for himself against Webber, or forced the D to sag for open looks for teammates. This would have lightened the load on Kobe quite a bit. Lamar missed a couple of point blank layups, before pulling up and hitting a little FT jumper against a back pedalling CWebb. He drove on Webber, got bumped by him with no call, then took a short floater, rebounded his miss and scored a layup. Odom set Kobe up on a drive from the top of the key for a three. All of those plays described took place in the first 12 minutes of action, all were on attacks from the top of the key. After that, Rudy, Odom and the Lakers didn't make an effort to get him the ball there for most of the game in that situation. They played with some sideline plays that Odom got blocked on one and a charge on another possession. He did get a layup in one similar attack when he just went right around Webber who stood planted in the ground. Prior to the game, Odom ranked 9th in the NBA in rebounds per game (10.3), 3rd in total defensive rebounds (96), 5th in total rebounds (124), 9th in defensive rebounds per 48 minutes (11.1) and 18th in total efficiency points (234).

Atkins -- -- The Lakers got far too little out of Chucky in this game shooting-wise. He went 2-10 and 1-7 from three for 5 points. He had a couple of big looks down the stretch that he could not convert on. Chucky stole a pass and took it the other way for a layup for one score. On the very next transition play, the Lakers got him the ball against Bibby on the break and this time Bibby blocked his shot. Looked like Chucky messed up his steps on his drive. Chucky hit one three early in the game. He had a nice drive and dish to Odom under the hoop for an easy dunk.

Butler -- -- In the preseason, Caron had a stellar game against this team. He pretty much disappeared tonight. He helped the Kings feed on the bonus early in the third with some fouls against Miller on a reach, Peja away from the ball, then Peja on the perimeter. That hurt, six FTs, 3 fouls and Caronriding the bench. Caron scored his first points of the game, getting a kickout from Kobe, he faked the three, drove, missed a bank, then tipped it back in. Kobe drew Caron's man to him, the dished the ball to Caron for a baseline jam. Caron had a layup off an Odom feed from the top of the key as Caron curl cut and Odom found him. So far this season Caron's FG percentage, 3PT percentage and FT percentage are all better than his first two seasons. He was 3-8 tonight for just 6 points.

Cook -- -- Cook was one of the few players to step up to the plate tonight. He was involved in a series of key plays down the stretch, a wide open three he missed, drawing a flagrant foul on Christie (good play), missing one of the flagrant FTs (bad play) and not getting to a Kobe pass that Peja jumped into the passing lane to steal. Cook had one of his better games mixing it up in the paint. He had a great box out that forced a foul. He took a charge. He swatted a BJax shot on some excellent help D. He played 26 minutes and scored 15 points on 5-13 shooting. He had 6 boards (2 offensive). Cook had back-to-back baskets on a pass from Jones for an 18-footer and three off a pick and pop in the second quarter. Shortly later, he scored an And-1 on a feed from Vlade in transition. Great job on another score, fighting for the offensive board in traffic and getting the And-1 to drop.

Vlade -- [IMG] -- Slightly better game from Vlade in his 7 minutes. He's still a couple weeks away at least from getting into decent game shape. He had a nice dish in a transition-type play. He looked a defender off and whipped a pass to Cook under the hoop. He scored on a putback of a Tierre miss, one of his two offensive boards. Defensively, he played some decent position D and boxed out on shots.

Slava -- [IMG] -- Rudy dusted off Slava for a short stint. Slava played some soft D on CWebb, giving him way too much space on his jumper. Offensively, he needed to crash the boards as much as possible. Last year, Slava ate up CWebb with his activity on the glass. Slava played 4 minutes, missed a shot from the corner and fouled once.

Jones -- -- Pretty decent game from Jones. Peja is a hard match up and he did a fairly good job of competing out there. Plus, Jumaine knocked down a couple of key shots in the second half. He finished with 10 points on 3-6 shooting (2-3 from three), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block in 24 minutes. The Lakers went small for a chunk of the game and JJ was running as our PF.

Rush -- -- Another snoozer from Rush. He got 8 minutes as the Lakers went small, but still he only managed 1 assists and 0 points in 8 minutes on 0-1 shooting. His one shot attempt came off a pass from Vlade. He did have a nice holding foul that wasn't called that allowed the Lakers to get a possession when BJax couldn't retrieve a loose ball.

Brown -- [IMG] -- Tierre tweaked his ankle, but should be fine. He scored 2 points on 1-3 shooting. He scored on a great hesitation move that absolutely froze one defenders and got BJax in the popcorn machine before Tierre turned on the gas and got a layup. Tierre threw a horrible pass on the break, right out of bounds, expecting Jones to stop instead of continue to the basket as he did. Usually, that play gets busted in the reverse fashion when the man filling the lane pulls up as the guard makes a pass to the lane. He did a reasonable job on defense tonight. Both Bibby and BJax are tough covers, but Tierre was able to stay in front of BJax better than our guards have in the past.

Rudy T -- -- Rudy is still learning this team and how they will attack certain opponents. I thought we did a poor job using Lamar in this game to take advantage of some of Webber's limitations in mobility. Attacking from the top of the key off the horn play would have been a good way to possibly get some easier hoops or force the D to collapse. In addition, CWebb was allowed to do damage while still having some early foul trouble. No better defense than having CWebb ride the pine, instead of us. Lamar could have also brought the ball up with little pressure from any King, allowing us to get into our offensive sets quicker. Both of those things would have eased the burden on Kobe... Much of this loss I credit to this team's injury issues and inexperience playing with each other. Yes, we had the game in our grasp, but some smarter play on both ends and more help from our bigs (Vlade who's new and Grant who is out) and we'd probably cruise in this game. What is sad we score 106 points and yet our offense still should have been much better... The team spotted the Kings an 8-0 head start in the first couple of minutes. Some unfocussed play on both ends. Rudy called a quick timeout and the Lakers responded, playing some tighter D and getting out in transition a little... Close game, but we couldn't close the deal when it was in our grasp...

Yea Kobe passed the ball around, but the times he passed the ball it was when he couldnt do anything with it. When he felt he could break double teams and such, and wanted to try running the shot clock down and doing something he shot the ball. Kobe passes when hes in trouble and alot of times yea its gonna lead to an assist, but when you have like 7 secs on the shot clock and you pass the ball your gonna get a rushed shot, Kobe cant have the ball in his hand for like 16 secs of the shot clock like he does. Kobe needs to pass regardless of how his players are doing, but he also has to know when its his time to take it to the basket, because if hes getting double teams, than that means theres a man open somewhere, and he doesnt need to be breaking them.

It was an overall good game,as both teams played to the max,as in my opinon it was one of the best overall games i have seen all year. [IMG]

The Kings won,but it wasn't an easy victory.22 Pts for Webber, and Kobe's effort was great, but not enough for for a Laker win,but stll a great effort.

Both teams played with tremendous heart and Laker fans, you have a much better team than most people give credit to,so just wanted to say that.

Anyways a good game period!
