You are very fortunate not to see any Hartford games. They
plain suck. They are one of the three worst teams in the AHL.
There isn't one player who is ready to be called up. Rangers
won't be getting any help from this source.

"The Rangers haven’t had a draft selection higher than 41st overall the last three Junes..."

this is a problem and will hurt us for the foreseeable future.

Yep. All the more reason they need to trade Yandle either for a first and a physical role player type with offensive upside or for a quality, young prospect who is NHL ready. It's amazing that Clark has found so many gems like Lindberg, Buchnevich, Duclair and Fast in later rounds. The trading of first round picks has to stop. It's moronic.

Yep. You are correct AL. However, have to give props to the scouts for stealing him. They traded Werek for him which was actually a bad draft pick. He couldn't skate.

Rangers sign forward Ryan Gropp to entry-level contract

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Rangers have signed forward Ryan Gropp to an entry-level contract.

General manager Jeff Gorton announced the signing of the 2015 second-round draft pick on Thursday.

Gropp has skated in 32 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season, collecting 18 goals and 14 assists. The 19-year-old leads the Thunderbirds in goals, ranks fourth on the team in points, and ranks fifth in assists.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has 66 goals and 66 assists in 158 career WHL games over three seasons.

Gropp was the 41st pick overall in the draft.

Gropp is very raw as a prospect. He has at least 3 years of development ahead of him. It's hilarious listening to morons on the HF board like Beacon talk like they are scouts when they know jack about player evaluation. I read multiple scouting reports and see if they are consistent. I believe what Clark says. Not what morons on HF say. Gropp hasn't quite figured it out yet but I trust Clark. Clark maintained all along McIlrath was going to be a good player. He again looks like he will be correct.

Question..is this his last year in junior? Doesnt signing him to a entry level contract start his clock towards free agency? If he is staying in junior for the rest of the season why sign him to a contract now?

Don't know. I'm sure the organization knows what they want to do with his development.

How does an entry-level contract slide?
Players who qualify in the entry-level system, also known as “Group 1” players, must sign contracts with strict limits on term and compensation.

If an 18 or 19-year-old* player signs an entry-level contract but doesn’t play in at least ten games in the first season of that contract, the terms** and number of years are automatically extended one year — effectively “sliding” the contract.

Al, Basically its 3 years and can slide 1 more year as he signed as a 19yr old

End of season 4 but by then he's 22 and I would hope he's here already with us.

Graves is starting to really come on in the AHL on a crap Pack team. Staal's replacement once they get that buffoon off the team. I respect Staal for what he was. Now, he's not worth the money.

Graves was named an AHL all star. Incredible news as he's 20 and a rookie. Further proving how stupid it was to sign Staal and Girardi to contract's with NMC's for the first 3 years of those contracts. Dumbasses.

Graves and Skjei on the left side bodes well for the future. Just another reason they need to trade Yandle.

Gropp had 3 assists last night as his teams centers have returned. He's not a guy that will create offense by himself. Laughable to read this moron Gropp hater in Beacon on HF. That guy is a tool. Iverson had a couple assists. He's having a better year. Pack scored 5 goals as soon as Jensen arrived. Tambellini had 1 G, 1 A. He has 9 goals, 5 assists on the year. About what I expected. He needs at least another year in the AHL to see where he is at. Hopefully he goes on a run and finishes with 17-18 goals. Comes in 10 pounds heavier in muscle next season. Buchenvich got traded to a better team and has sucked. He has 1 point in 5 games. Heard Saarela got hurt. That freakin sucks.

Rangers prospect Aleksi Saarela was injured in his return to the Finnish league after the World Junior Championships and is out for the rest of the season. (Hiitelä)

Saarela assisted on the Gold Medal winning goal for Finland and had 4 goals and 3 assists in 7 tournament games.

In the Finnish league this season, Saarela had 10 goals and 5 assists in 28 games.

Corey Pronman listed Saarela as one of the surprises of the tournament, saying that he played well in every game of the tournament. (ESPN Insider)

Pronman says that Saarela has an "above-average" shot and that an increased level of skating allowed him to use his vision and play with "great pace." (ESPN Insider)

Saarela played last game. He isn't out for the season. That report was nonsense.

Gropp had 2 G and 1 A last night. It's amazing how bad the majority of goalies and defenseman are in the minors. Not suprising. Most juniors players won't even make the AHL. I've learned to reserve judgment on junior prospects being good NHL players until I see them either play in the AHL or in the NHL. It's easier evaluating the production of a prospect in the elite Finish, Swedish leagues along with the KHL.
