I've been all about throwing a max at Whiteside, but reading more about him and how MIA has benched him, he seems like a punk. If he can't be corrected in that environment with Wade/Bosh/Spo/Riley, what will he do when Dame and Neil are the only ones to set him in line? Maybe we stay away. So much game, but he's a headcase. I didn't like how he went after Boban yesterday.
I'd avoid Whiteside. We don't have any knuckleheads and that's a big reason our team is developing and playing so well. That Miami team should be the #2 seed in the East; his play is a giant red flag. There have been many examples of these types of players in the past; the overwhelming majority don't figure it out. Those who do definitely don't figure it out when they are handed their first massive dollar guaranteed contract. I'd rather get players whose contributions seem to exceed their stats than guys who's stats seem to exceed their contributions.
Wade said this about Whiteside... "We're all supposed to be in here for one common goal, and sometimes we don't know what he's thinking" Ouch
Whiteside free throw % up to 60% He's also one of the best finishers at the rim in the league (looking for the article). And he's learning to play more effective defense. He might be a little rasheed wallace-like at times with his emotions. But I'm pretty sure being on a team like ours, would help him calm down and play better basketball. We definitely could've used a shot blocking, high percentage finisher tonight.
A team like ours? He's playing alongside Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Luol Deng. Has Pat Riley in his front office. If he needs something BEYOND that to buy in, well....
It's not buying in that he needs to do. He needs to calm the fuck down during games. And the current leadership in Miami seems to suck for whiteside. Portland has a different leadership style, which, in my humble opinion, would fit whiteside much better than Miami's.
I think Stotts has more of a system in place, than what spo has in miami. That would help whiteside as well.

These are pretty interesting to look at as well... Anthony Davis http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/203076/tracking/defense/ Deandre Jordan http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201599/tracking/defense/ Marc Gasol http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201188/tracking/defense/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular Season Draymond Green http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/203110/tracking/defense/ Hassan Whiteside http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/202355/tracking/defense/
That's just silly. 2 words: Greg Oden Sam Bowie LaRue Martin We'd get production out of Whiteside. You're not making sense.
If we can sign him for one partially guaranteed year, sure. Give it a try; even at the max. If we have to pay him a multi year guaranteed deal; no. Don't take that risk. Do you think the majority of players with attitude problems behave better the season after getting a huge long term contract?
