Then the scouting report is WRONG. He might be fast in a straight line, but nobody in their right mind would ever describe him as agile. He has no lateral quickness whatsoever. It's just like when people said LA "ran like a deer". Yeah, he pranced quickly in a straight line, but he had no ability to change direction (or catch a pass!) on the move.
Also, if you want "twin towers" just start Collins - he's only an inch shorter, is a far better defender, much more agile, has a more varied offensive repertoire, and isn't mentally handicapped.
cant wait for Rise Up...... Again that footage of him backing down that 5'9" trainer in the paint and mercilessly popping a jumper or dunk on him was just fire. skys the limit.
Like others on here have said: I'll believe it when I see it. I have, right now, zero confidence in him to be anything but a D-league-caliber Big. I'll say this though: if he improves his footwork, that will be amazing; both for him and his performance. His feet are WAY too flat, and his legs are WAY too stiff.
Agreed. But as much as Meyers not refining his game is on him personally - I'm more disappointed in the coaching staff who have let this young center turn into what we see today. Looking at his rookie season footage, and how he is much more agile and aggressive, there is/was some real potential there. In other words: Hire a Mof'in Big Man Coach!!!
Agreed. I think we actually have one of the more lousy coaching staffs in the league. Ultimately, it falls at Stott's feet. I personally have been pretty sick of him for a couple of seasons now. But....let's see how his schemes go with a healthy Nurk for a full season. But yeah....this coaching staff....bad. Pretty bad.
Agree 1000%. When the team was imploded after LMA left, I really thought that was a good time to rebuild the coaching staff as well for a fully fresh start. Was never really impressed with Stotts, but the big miss was not hiring Thibs that same off-season when he was available. A defensive minded coach would've been perfect for our backcourt. Whilst Thibs record isn't great at Twoves, he has given the team more prestige/extra clout around the league & I suspect his defensive teachings will finally reap some rewards for them this season.
I don't think it's that Meyers lacks agility, it's about his reaction time. Having those instincts is more important than actual quickness.
He's never had quick reaction times (and having your eyes closed doesn't help) - bit he seems much stiffer & heavier in movement these days as well.
I did the same with the Cardinals' Tommy Pham in various Cardinal forums. I was roasted everywhere last season when he was benched and finished 4-39 closing out the season with sporadic playing time and then again when the season began this year in AAA for him. All the while I kept taking my licks complaining about his lack of opportunity. What do you know, he finally got it about five weeks into the season and he didn't look back. He turned in an elite performance this season, much like he did in my OOTP games when I put him in the starting lineup and modified his stats to my own assessment. You know who is congratulating me now on my prescience? ME! That's about it.
Hate is a strong word - one that I never said. Stotts is an OK coach, and whilst i'm not the biggest fan of his coaching style - off the court he seems like a great human being. My opinion is we had a chance to get a better coach in Thibs when he was available - but for whatever reason/s we didn't.
The words are great, now it's time for him to prove it. On the court. The rest doesn't matter. I won't root for him to fail though. We need him to be good, whether it's for us or for his trade value, we need him to be good.
Don't mind her; she likes being dramatic and sarcastic for no reason whatsoever. Just play along with it, and she'll go away eventually. We definitely need a defensive-minded coach, and that is not Stotts.
