A new Meyers Leonard... same ol' J Quick seriously, this guy mails in human interest Bball stories with the most serial of Days of Our Lives formulas. I don't know why any Blazer fan who doesn't love their expected plain oatmeal bothers reading this tripe. STOMP
Meyers will have a solid career as a 3rd string big for years to come....we need to generate some buzz around the guy! He played well against Gasol and Cousins at times.....both teams are not great at trades....I have hope! By February I hope he's a solid 10 pt defender who doesn't foul out in his 12 minutes!
I watched the 2nd half of the Raptor's game last night..... oh my god. I can almost see his internal mental dialog as guards come into the paint. "OMG, a guard is coming in, what do I do, what do I do, let me take a wild swipe at the ball...oh no, he's scoring a layup." Seriously, Meyers didn't even contest it at all, he just stood their doing that little "meyers shuffle" where he flailes his arms and taps his feet from side to side, but he didn't even go up and challenge the fucking shot. Good god he is horrible. His only idea for how to redeem himself is to make a lot of jumpers, but he was only 1-6, forcing up bad shots.
Yeah, he can say and think all the right things, but in the end no matter how hard he tries he just doesn't have any instincts for the game of basketball. Every night is the same "Mom's Spaghetti" scene from 8 Mile, over and over. "Progress" for him is having a run of two or three games until he starts choking again. If Meyers were a foot shorter does anybody think he would've been any sort of athlete, aside from maybe a body builder?
Meyers looks like the brain of some regular person who has never played basketball aside from shooting hoops in the driveway were transplanted into the body of a 7 foot nba player. That's the way he plays.
To me, it's really the combo of "no instincts" + "fragile psyche". I've never seen this in an NBA player, or any pro. athlete, period.
A lot of players have had poor instincts and fragile psyches. It's just that they are usually out of the league before too long.
I think you, the boards, Mike Rice, and Stotts are on the same page on that one: "Meyers Leonard enters the game for the first time" - Clippers announcer in 4th quarter of Blazers-Clipppers preseason game.
Meyers Leonard Foot Injury Doesn’t Look Promising Meyers Leonard injured his ankle in a practice drill on Wednesday morning, rendering him unavailable for tonight’s game pitting the Trail Blazers against the Los Angeles Clippers. News today got grimmer for the 7’1 F/C, according to Mike Richman and Joe Freeman of The Oregonian. Leonard has appeared in two games this season, averaging 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per outing.
I know Meyers has only played in 5 games but.... It was pointed out in this thread that Meyers was showing improvement while playing Center then was moved to PF when Lamarcus left and fell off the planet. He has played 5 games so far (tiny sample for sure) this season and is back to playing C, and he's looking pretty good so far. PER 36 this season 18.3pts, 11reb .632fg .5713pt and a PER of 19.8 Not saying anything is confirmed at this point but at least it's encouraging.
We can criticize Leonard all we want when he’s playing like shit, he deserves it, but I’ll never understand the people that are so blinded by their hate that they can’t see the value he does bring to our team when he’s playing well.
