    "Bench coach Rick Renteria is expected to return to the Padres' spring training facility today, barely 48 hours after a line drive to the face required surgery.

    A Mike Baxter line drive ricocheted off a pitching screen bar Thursday and hit Renteria flush above the lip. Manager Bud Black said Renteria's top teeth stayed in place but were bent backward. The manager said Renteria broke the maxillary bone, which is called the mustache bone.

    "He went down. It was terrible," Baxter said. "He was bleeding from his mouth. You couldn't see his teeth. I'm just happy to know the surgery went well.""
