Re: Random Thought Thread 8. We can't anticipate all of the things the staff may find unacceptable. Again, it is completely the discretion of SportsTwo staff to enforce any unwritten policies they deem fit, and you are expected to abide by these judgements. Doesn't that just neutralize all the rules? Why just make one rule that says "S2 staff can do whatever they want, make whatever rules they want and enforce them as they see fit"?
Re: Random Thought Thread Um...actually, after MainEvent's 1st reply, it was locked. Then, MainEvent and Max actually did post in the locked thread. So, it actually was great. http://sportstwo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1689084#post1689084 tag is win
Re: Random Thought Thread didn't realize it was locked ya see. also, I need to Maxturbate. no spelling error
Re: Random Thought Thread The first seven are the rules that we intend to apply. Rule 8 is for circumstances we don't currently anticipate. I'm sure someone will come up with something that needs to be addressed. We've never had to post rules before, because people here have generally been pretty good about things in general. But you wanted them, you've got them. These were the rules posted in the mod forum on day 1 of S2.
Re: Random Thought Thread It's easier to have rules like that, for good and for bad. For Good: 1. It eliminates the need to have 20 or so rules. 2. Legalistically it eliminates loopholes, someone trying to argue, "oh well this specific rule wasn't there." ie., members shouldn't track down other members and tp and egg their houses. For Bad: 1. Leaves members in the dark about large amount of gray areas, and even with good intentions, one member's definition (or mod for that matter) of what should be acceptable or not acceptable can be quite different. Umair for example thinks the site is barbaric, while other mods disagreed with him.
Re: Random Thought Thread Umair didnt think the site was barbaric...he said it needed to be cleaned up a bit. Umair and I both came from JBB where profanity and stuff was prohibited and even with that rule in place, we still had alot of posting going on. Umair and I are cut from the same thread, so theres one mod that actually backs him. I'm not going against the system we have here, I'm fairly easygoing as most of you know, but just some input.
Re: Random Thought Thread The gray areas are generally acceptable. It is our expectation that if a poster is making the site less fun for the rest of the community, we can straighten it out with a friendly PM. Our moderators are instructed to be helpers, not adversaries of the posters. See rule #3. The staff positions are not paid, these are regular posters like everyone else here, they are here to use the extra software features to which they have access to assist people. For the unpaid part, as well as #2, they deserve a huge amount of respect. It's my honor to work with these people, and that includes having worked with the former staffers. You can assume they're not out to get anyone or have any agenda other than what's best for everyone here.
Re: Random Thought Thread I was just having a bit of fun - It's hard to tell when he's being serious, ya see?
Re: Random Thought Thread I wouldn't say a huge amount of respect is deserved, I have a huge amount of respect for TheBeef and what he does for his family. But the responsibilty of being a low-level mod isn't very much. I'm curious, Denny do you get paid?
Re: Random Thought Thread No. In fact, I've born quite a bit of the cost of running the site all along.
Re: Random Thought Thread Are any other owners active? Sidenote: global warming for the win, down with libertarianism .
Re: Random Thought Thread Denny Crane, Cpaw, Petey, MikeDC, MTwoOne, and Hunter. I`m guessing I`m wrong about a couple though.
