<div class="quote_poster">Mamba Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I believe, don't take this for sure I'd research it, that LB state is in a terrible neighborhood crime wise. I remember a couple of my buddies went off there and all they complained about was the crime.</div> Dunno but I liked it a lot. Didn't come off as a very bad area but definitely wasn't in a high class area. I think thats partly why I liked it, seemed very laid back but still exciting and had plenty of stuff to do, sort of reminds me of the town I live in now. Also its not like LA or San Diego where you've got to get on 4 different freeways and drive for 30 minutes to go 3 miles. Seemed more suburban, middle class, laid back medium sized town-ish, which I really dug while also being pretty close to LA and a decent drive to San Diego which is nice as well. But if it is a ghetto I may reconsider, I don't want to be going to college in the hood but its not really that much of a deterrent for me (isn't USC in a really bad area too?). Slightly OT but I just saw a stat that said Long Beach is the largest college in California with 34,000+ students. I'm more interested ingoing to a big college but thats effing huge lol. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Tell me more about SDSU, I haven't visited the campus yet, heard it was ugly. I've researched SDSU and Fullerton a little, and I'm leaning to one of those two when I transfer.</div> Campus was really nice from what I saw but like I said its absolutely enormous. I probably didn't see the whole thing but I drove around the area thats off the highway and it seemed very nice and all the buildings were very new and modern. I really only drove around a bit and just got a feel for the physical makeup of SDSU and the atmosphere a bit as we were in a rush to get to the other colleges but I thought it was really nice. You should probably go yourself and check out the colleges you want to transfer to. Visiting the ones I did completely changed my views of them that I had before which was based off things I'd heard or read. You really have to go there and scope it out to see how you'd fit, if you'd like living there, with the people who go to school there, in that location, atmosphere, etc. Obviously academics will be a big factor but its not hard to find a school that offers what you need, feeling comfortable is important as well and you can't really get an idea for the atmosphere without going to the campuses. As far as CSU's go, the top ones academically are Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton, CSU LB, and SDSU. Some good informational websites with info about these colleges would be californiacolleges.edu or fastweb.com (requires signing up with detailed info about your schooling and constantly offers you links to enlist in the military but its got a ton of info on basically every college in the U.S.) <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If you had to rank those schools, how would you rank them?</div> Wow, thats a tough question lol but heres my rankings according to where I'd want to go if I was accepted to all of them: 1) USD- Pros: Beautiful campus, good academically and offers all the majors I'm interested in, good looking chicks, awesome weather and lots of stuff to do. Cons: Not a huge fan of San Diego but I think I'd get used to it, small school which means more 1 on 1 help but less "being a fly on the wall" or "flying under the radar" which is really more of what I prefer. 2) Long Beach- Pros: Love the atmosphere, surrounding area, etc. Tons of options for academics, big school, close to the big cities but still somewhat suburban, great weather. Cons: As far as its reputation academically I might be able to get in somewhere better, possibly in a bad area? 3) SDSU- Pros: Awesome campus, liked the atmosphere, nice weather, good looking women. Academically has a ton of options and offers a couple of the majors I'm considering. Cons: Again, I'm not fond of San Diego right now though I can get used to it, huge school (this is good and bad though). 4) UC Santa Barbara: Pros: Very nice campus, academically offers what I'm looking for, good looking women. Like the atmosphere. Cons: Santa Barbara is a fairly large city but seems kind of out in the middle of no where if you want to go to a major city, fairly long drive to LA (with insane traffic to boot) and a very long drive to the Bay Area. 5) UCSD- Pros: Its in San Diego? (not a huge pro for me) Cons: Seems slow, old, boring, isolated, doesn't offer most of the majors I want, girls are broke, just doesn't seem like a good fit for me. Though if you were to give me specific criteria I could give you some completely different lists and personal preference has a lot to do with it (i.e. large school vs. small school, location, atmosphere, academics, etc. all vary from person to person) Forgive me if some of this doesn't make sense, I was driving around California from 8 in the morning until 10 at night after two nights of little sleep on Howard Johnson's horrible beds. I'm tired as hell as it is but forcing myself to stay up knowing I'll get a good nights sleep in my own bed tonight.
<div class="quote_poster">Umair Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">That's pretty good man. $16 bucks an hour. Good luck with getting the job man. How exactly would you get free clothes? I mean there would be a limit, so how would it work?</div> Well, I applied to 3 positions. The one that pays $16/hour is the "modeling" one. Basically you just stand around and say "Hey, how are you doing?" while wearing Abercrombie clothes. The clothes you wear while greeting the customers you get to keep. If you want to buy something else you get a discount and depending on how many people you recommend to the store, it increases. I have another interview at 5:00 which is basically stocking and all that other stuff. I don't know how much that pays but it is in midtown Manhattan (where you can sometimes pay $1.75 for a can of soda) so I think it should pay decently. If I get the job, I can quit my old job which pays $7.15/hour and many times the job involves fighting off rats (there was a huge one yesterday that was in the middle of eating a steel garbage can) cleaning, and stuff like that. The good part about it is I get to jack a few Vitamin Waters when no one is watching, lol.

<div class="quote_poster">Run BJM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> UCSD: Wasn't feeling it at all. Its a gigantic campus thats somewhat isolated from a lot of the city (the other 3 San Diego schools were all pretty close to one another right off the same highway). Seemed very slow and boring, isolated, I just wasn't feeling it at all plus they are known for sciences and I'm definitely not going into that. Plus the girls were pretty ugly from what I saw and its hard as hell to get in. Glad I visited because I definitely don't want to waste an application on them.</div> That is one of the good UC's, but it is as hard as Berkley to get into. I would go to this out of all those. I found out the other day i qualify for Berkley, but it dosen't mean much considering i'm going to be a sophmore.
Pushups can build muscle, but not very well. The best way to build muscle (especially on the upper body) is by starting a steady diet with proteins and weight resistance exercises. Weight lifting is the second option. You never have to give up eating fried chicken and all that, but you have to limit yourself and not drink too much soda or high sugar drinks in general. To build muscle on the legs, you just get on a bike for a few hours per day and then run the stairs for a half hour to an hour. If that becomes to easy for you then carry weights as you're performing the stair climbs. Eventually I got to a point where I was strong enough to carry over 300 lbs and going up and down stairs continuously for a half hour. Now, nobody I've ever met or even seen can compare leg muscles with me. Of course, it is healthy to have some fat in the legs along with all that muscle to protect from tears and other problems.
Run, thanks for the run down (no pun intended). Once I finish up the upcoming fall semester, I need to get all wheels goin' on this transfer thing and start checking out schools. SDSU has a great criminal justice program which I want to get into, eventually I want to get into Criminal Psychology and Criminal Profiling. San Marcos also has a good CJ program, I just hate the area. Fullerton, I'm not sure about their CJ system, but if I'm still with STARBUCKS when I transfer, I can make bank in tip money in the area.

Before I went to visit these schools it was at the top of my list as well but seeing it in person and getting a feel for it completely changed my opinion. Academically I believe its regarded as a notch below UC Berkeley and UCLA and about on par with UC Irvine (and just as hard to get into) but having seen it it just doesn't seem like a place I'd like to live. Plus, like I said, it doesn't offer almost any, if any at all, of the majors I want to pursue. Its just not the right fit for me at all so even though its regarded as a very good school its just not for me. Thats pretty impressive that you qualify for Berkeley but its still hard as hell to get in. 27% acceptance rate, average HS GPA for last years incoming freshman was a 3.94. Have you taken the SAT yet? Heres the average SAT scores for last year's incoming freshman class: SAT Math: 700-800 50% 600-699 33% 500-599 13% Below 500 4% SAT Verbal: 700-800 33% 600-699 40% 500-599 20% Below 500 7% Probably helps if you're a minority. Berkeley is 43% Asian , 32% white, 11% Hispanic, 4% African American.
^No i have not taken the SAT yet, it is not good to take it multiple times. I think the most I might take it is 2 or 3 times. The colleges will see how many times you take it, you would look like an idiot if it it said you took it 12 times or something and still got like an 1800. I took the PSAT though, I was preety suprised at my scores, I was a freshamn that just started Algebra 2 and did not do Geometery and I got a 60/80 for the math section. 55/80 for writing, and 57/80 for Reading. So i got a 172. I beat out like 70% of the Sophmores. I was the 3rd highest freshman. My GPA is moderate right now, my avergae is a 3.667 with all Honors classes. Next year to, I have all Hons classes with Hon Chemistry weighted, so I think I can boost my GPA back up. I will be taking almost all of the Ap classes in my Junior and Senior year, so i expect it to go to to 4.0+. The senior class that graduated this year, we had 6 admited into berkely, the lowest of thier GPA's was a 3.9 I think. So yea, its a long shot. But I think i could do it. No im not minority though lol. I'am Indian, so I'm at the 43%. Which just makes it harder...lol

He makes anything from hiphop beats to background scores. He got a deal to create the background music for a show on MTV some time back, although I'm not sure what show it was. If you want to see his hiphop beats, check out www.insidiousproductions.com Check out "Life Goes On - Mellow Piano Beat"...that's one of my favourite beats. On another note, it's hard getting a job now, even through an agency. All the day shifts get filled up really fast.

Have anyone of you guys tried the Protein Powder? Someone recommended me to buy those. I heard that it's powder you can mix with any type of drink. It gains you weight real fast, and I am planning on working out right after I drink it so I can turn the weight I gain into muscle so I am basically gaining weight and muscle at the same time. Anyone of you guys tried that?

It does help build muscle, but I stopped after a while because my mom told me it was not healthy for your heart or something
Hollister offered me a modeling job until they realized I wasn't 17 yet. They only hire people 17 and up there.

<div class="quote_poster">Umair Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Oh ok, how many pounds of weight did you gain?</div> I wasn't really trying to gain weight, just more muscle. I started working out at the beginning of the year, and now I've gotten a lot bigger. I currently weigh about 145 (not exact), but I believe before that I weighed like 130 or something, I don't really remember... Maybe it was 135 or something I'm not sure if my weight was accurate, but I gained like 15 pounds?
I don’t think I’m getting that position after my interview. There were like 10 people getting interviewed—all more qualified than me. In the beginning we had to introduce ourselves briefly and most of them said things like “I just finished getting my degree in fashion” or “I was a stylist for MTV the past seven years” and all I could say was “Uhh… I just finished graduating from High School.” They asked this one question like name a time when you had to work with someone to achieve a goal and one guy was talking how he and someone else helped produce a beat for Cam’ron. Everyone, except me, was between the ages of 23-30. Yesterday I thought I had that job in the bag. My friend said in his interview there were a bunch of idiots. One said something to the effect “I went to jail because my baby moms snitched on me and that’s why I don’t trust nobody. But anyway……… I think I can be a great help to the store.” I thought there would be more of those types of people during my interview.

I would never use that crap.
