Not sure about that Prod. A lot of these kids in Russia eat like crap and don't even work out. They just care about scoring and skating. Different game there. It was obvious the kid never lifted a weight in his life. You can put on quite a bit of muscle as a 18 year old over 2-3 years if you have never trained properly before and your metabolism just doesn't burn weight. McIlrath was 212 when he was drafted. Now he's 236. It all depends just how little weight training you have done. Buchnevich obviously hasn't done any.
Right, don't get me wrong I agree he can definitely bulk up and put on some weight. But 25 to 30 pounds of pure muscle is unrealistic. McIlrath was drafted as an 18 year old. A teenager. And in 6 years he's up 22 pounds, which I assure you is not all muscle. Buch will be 22 soon. He trained in North America the past few summers under the watch of Rangers coaches. He's not a complete novice in that area. He does need to get bigger and stronger, but the main focus should be not irritating that disc injury which may mean no heavy weights until the offseason. From my experience he's probably doing a ton of yoga poses, medicine ball exercises and body weight stuff. Anything more and that disc could shoot out, and then he's done for the year. Subban is dealing with one now and he's been held off the ice for a few weeks now.
What the New York area got was the Flyers sportscasters doing the game. Of course, there was a definite slant to their broadcast. Typical Ranger negativity.......that seems to be NBCSN across the board. They prefer "name players" teams............and we all know which teams those are!
This is just a speculation on my part. Sounds like it is a chronic back issue with Buch. He must've had this issue in Russia at some point and did not tell the rangers medical staff. Probably thought that it is no big deal and it would go away on its own. Rangers and these Russian prospects. They never have any luck with them.
Would not surprise me at all. Regardless of when it started I'm sure that given his slight frame and the rigors of the NHL it got worse and worse to the point that he had to shut it down. Let's just hope he avoids the surgery because it's a difficult one.
Buch in a regular jersey at practice today, and was just assigned to the Pack for a conditioning stint. He'll probably stay down there through the bye week next week, and hopefully be ready to rock on Jan 13 along with Rick Nash. Finally some good news.
Genetics play a big role as well. Some just can't add muscle to that degree. Body builders that do for example are usually not do so naturally.
