"The Rangers and general manager Jon Daniels have agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2015 season and puts him in position to become the longest-tenured GM in club history.

    Financial terms were not disclosed.

Daniels took over as GM following the 2005 season and was under contract through the 2011 season. Club president Nolan Ryan had said a month ago that a contract extension had become a "priority" for the organization. Ryan and Daniels met on Thursday morning and re-engaged talks later in the day.

"Jon and his baseball operations group have done an outstanding job in building an organization that will allow the Rangers to contend for postseason play year in and year out," Ryan said in a statement. "The efforts in scouting and player development as well as sound decisions on the major league level have put our franchise in a good position. We look forward to Jon leading our baseball operation for many years to come.""
